Miners

Hi ,
1 so since we will get fighters in 2.2 will we be able to out fitt the small ships with small mining lasers?
2 will we get some engineers upgrades? like limpets with more armor or higher speed?
3 mining lasers enchanted to give more fragments / roid?
i think miners needs some love to so i m looking foward at fellow Commanders for opinions .
 
1. I think we can outfit them, but not mining lasers
2. Never heard any plans on this. Don't think so.
3. I think this would be something for them to look into. Engineered Mining Laser could be great for miners.
 
As yet we have gone unloved :( Would be nice to get some Mining Specific 'something'! Please don't let us be forgotten! lol
 
A mining engineer would be spectacular. I'd love:

Mining lasers enhanced to bore out fragments faster at the cost of more heat

Collection limpets that move significantly faster at the cost of a shorter duration

Collection limpets that move slightly slower for a bonus of double duration

Prospector limpets that can be recalled after deploying

Mining lasers that only harvest chunks of commodities, no materials

Refineries that have more bins at the cost of more weight

I could go on. Heck, that's a whole Engineer or two right there!
 
class 1A collectors = 1 limped
class 3A collectors = 2 limped
class 5a collectors = 3 limped
class 7a collectors = 4 limped

in my opinion this is a bad .
class 5 collector takes a class 5 slot so why not 5 active limpets.
now i know that there are not so many miners and we are a minority but it will be nice to get some love somewhere
 
2.2 fighters only use is fighting. Devs have said no to engineering fighters and other non combat uses. They said we can choose from fighter builds but not do customization for them like we can do for ships.

I'd be surprised if we wouldn't see at least a number of more Engineers. 15 to go right now and plenty of Equipment that eagerly waits to be tweaked...

Who knows, a Name I've discovered due to a Bug during V2.0beta hasn't surfaced anywhere yet ;)

I'd rather have a refinery that is more efficient but needs more juice or less bins rather than having lasers that bore out more fragments because to me it's not as effective a boost. Imagibe having a refinery that gets twice as much per fragment but needs a little more hands on management due to having less bins and sucks more juice. That would be a nice bump to profits and a nice boost on time taken to fill the hold.

Having more fragments just means I need more limpets (inneficient) or have to hang around longer at each rock (time sink) or start taking prospectors out again because (loosing internals and faffing around) I'd get more junk fragments I want to avoid. Contrast with that having a more efficient refinery which would mean being able to fill my hold twice as fast per fragment of whatever I pick up, which would be totally awesomesauce to me at least. I'd even take a refinery with less bins and an insane power draw/heat output/crazy mass if it was "efficient" like this.

This is a good example of whoever at FD that makes these design decisions doesn't play the game, or certainly not mining. It's obviously just an arbitrary decision made to limit miners for no good reason at all. The fact that the number of limpets increases linearly while the size goes up by a factor of 4 each step clearly show there has been very little thought put into this at all.
It wouldn't be game breaking for an Anaconda to be able to have 50 active limpets, it wouldn't actually be any use anyway as the lasers couldn't keep up even with an engineered power distributor. Worse case is that a mining ship might actually be able to defend itself if it had room to include HRPs or SCBs.

Consider a theoretical class 9 limpet controller using the current game mechanic. It would be 512 tons and only control 5 active limpets. Wow, a Panther Clipper is going to be a great mining ship with one of those.
