Ship Builds & Load Outs Mines exploding on each other?

Cheers everyone!

Just equipped my AspX with 6 Shock Mine Launchers as an escape measure (still have to see if they have any real effect). When trying them out I noticed that directly after launching them there's some explosion sound. Is it possible that mines can explode on each other if the hardpoints are aligned in a bad way to each other?

Greetings Commander Turnspit.

The two up facing medium launchers throw their payload against the back of your hull, destroying them before the go active.
I tried that build myself very hard. A bomber ASP would be cool.

So far I've tried a T6 with shock mines against an NPC Vulture I destroyed the Vulture after about 30+ mines, the Cobra 3 is also effective against a player interdiction in a Courier I guess he gave up being bounced around by the shock waves.

I tried a DBE but it didn't appear to work that well perhaps it's a combination of speed and launcher location (underside) so a Dolphin mine be worth a try as well.

As far as I am concerned, the mine launchers are facing the wrong way entirely, throwing mines forward and up over the ship (if mounted on top), or forward, then down (if mounted on the bottom). I "bugged" this with the earlier versions of Elite, but FDev continues to view them as "mortars" and not "launchers" of mines.

You launch a mine from the back of a ship, and "throw" it away from "behind" the ship, not launch it at your opponent. FDev, turn the dammed launcher 180 degrees and throw the mine up/down and away from the ship.

Thanks

Turning them around won't make any difference in like 99% of the times you fire them.

In the case of the OP the mediums as already described will detonate against the ship but the smalls below will be fine.
Turning them around wouldn't make any difference at all.

I've used mines on most of the small/medium ships and I have not seen any ship where flipping them around would stop them of detonating against the ship if they already do so.

I've not tried a bomber asp but I know the vipers work excellent for that with the two medium being below and to the back.
With two small dumbfire launchers up front and two medium mine launchers they make excellent ground attack vehicles. Bombs away!!!

They don't bounce back up off the ground your bombing?

Had not thought of using mines for bombs on the ground. +1

Mines on a planet are simply bombs :)

It takes some practice to be able to complete a successful bombing run but very satisfying to do so.

Basically place yourself above a POI with some skimmers. And 'fire' your mines. Making sure that they are on the underside of your ship obviously, or flip your ship over if using a Cobra IV for ex where all HP's are on the top. Gravity will pull the mines down and if they contact a skimmer, BOOM! If not they just bounce around depending on the gravity of the planet.

They are also pretty good to take out landed ships and turrets. Place yourself above the target, let loose with the mines as many as possible before bailing out of enemy fire etc and watch your target go pop :D
