Mini noob readme mining

I get asked so much about mining more than engineering or combat put together.
Seems the words out.
Mining is Op.
So with that in mind I decided to write a readme that takes into account the changes bought about by recent rebalance in Dec 2020.
1) if you enter a hotspot and find nothing pertaining to that hotspot it's because it's a core only! ( this Is the biggest whiner of all. So that's the answer!)edit** see Notspot.
2) don't fly without a rebuy.!
3) build a ship that can withstand an npc attack. Doesn't have to be engineered but that defo helps. Just reinforcements and decent shields will suffice. You don't need weps mining so don't fit em.
Don't mine in the open unless you want the associated risk/immersion. Solo will guarantee no pvpers and dealing with npc pirates is alot easier trust me.
4) upon entering a hotspot or ring do not start mining. Fly about heading for the planet or wotever till your scanned by pirates. Once they see you only have limpets they'll off leaving you alone to fill your hold.
5) do not relog logoff IN the ring. You'll regret it.
6) once your full stay put and search for buyer. Once located and plotted assuming you've a fuel scoop just jump honk till your there. Stop for nothing except fuel scooping.
7) upon arrival at sell point be aware that larger loads ie I think it's 190ton or more are subject to a bulk tax or something...as a fc owner I always sell 150 tons a time. Saves a few quid.
There are 4 kinds of mining.
Laser, subsurface, surface, & core mining. Try em all. Core mining is hard skilful and easier with a python or equivalent. Cos you need to be manouverable to plant the charges.
Laser is dull mindless boring. Fire an A rated prospector into a rock until you find one that's got what you want and then fire at it till it's drained using collector limpets x6 x9 x12 depending on how big your ship is, to collect the fragments.
Sub surface is fun. Has a mini game that you get good at. Surface too using an abrasion blaster to knock off the blobs on rocks surface.
Painite, low temperature diamonds, void opals, are still the mainstay of mining.
Kit required.
Suitable ship with cargo space, a refinery, collector/prospector (A rated) limpets, mining lasers 2 will suffice, seismic charge, couple of subsurface modules, an abrasion blaster, an A rated pulse wave analyser. And a detailed surface scanner.
The pc version of the pwa
isn't working correctly atm unless you fly backwards hehe.
So...hope all that helps.
Feel free cmdrs to add or correct info

Patch dated 16th Dec for fixing pwa announced today 14th Dec 2020

Addenum. All my mining weps are turreted. Gives a bit more flexibility but loses dps so slower trickle rate of fragments.

Good ships to mine with?
Best ship to laser mine with is a cutter with 2 prospector and 12 collector limpets and 500 ton of cargo. But an anaconda or corvette will do nicely too. Also a type 9 or 10 but their slow.
A python excels at all types of mining but has limited cargo 150ton upwards depending on other modules you fit.
A krait ll is also good to mine with. Core mining is medium ship stuff but there are no rules you mine with what your comfy with. I use an anaconda. Linked below. She's perfect running very cool at 12% temp. Hard to see her unless your very very close . She's fully engineered.

PS4 PWA is also bugged, sometimes it seems to work OK, but not always. Same workaround.- reverski or just pop into camera mode and look behind / scan after firing the PWA (make sure you have a shield fitted for both)

PWA is borked, and it needs to be fixed ASAP.

It's the one reason I don't even bother to mine anymore and it wasn't like it was my preferred activity in the past. Just something to do to change the pace and chill for a bit, perhaps save up for a couple of rebuys.

Mining can be fun, even to me, because I bring all the toys, all rocks matter, but when you can't rely on your instruments to give a true readout, it's not fun anymore. I don't give a wet fart whether the number of core/ssd/sd rocks has been lowered, I'm not looking for riches here, just another fun activity, but if my module specifically purchased for one purpose and one purpose only (the PWA) doesn't give me a true readout, then there's precious little point in it anymore.

I just want it to reliably say "interesting/not interesting" instead of "not interesting, but if you fly really slowly for a flew clicks, then flip over, sacrifice a live chicken and roll slowly while making sure that the module is in slot X then it might be interesting again", which is just p*ss poor coding, and I don't understand why this is not priority number one, particularly not with the balance passes (much needed and I'm a big fan) being ostensibly introduced to reward skill based activities while at the same time crippling the number ONE tool needed for that activity.

Imagine if your PAs randomly decided that they didn't want to inflict damage because reasons, even though they clearly hit the target.

Get on the ball, FD. You have a tool that doesn't work as advertised and you've given us nothing but "we're looking into it", which is still better than nothing.

Sorry. Unacceptable, get the situation unf*cked or find somebody who CAN unf*ck it and replace the ones who can't with those who can.

Meanwhile, I'm still enjoying this game for going on six years, I'm just occasionally unimpressed with your willingness to address issues in a timely manner.

It's not an absolute value. The price will drop if you are carrying more than a certain percentage (I think it's 25%) of demand at the station.

One final word. Mining with your Carrier nearby is fab. Most miners out there do just that hence all the clutter of carriers around well known triple hotspots.
But l suggest you find your own. No lag no disconnects no piracy. Just go out into the black and once your 5000 or so ly out in undiscovered space you'll find one. This way you pay for Carrier upkeep exploring as u go. The UC on board assures your data is safe.
Happy hunting.
Do date I've bookmarked 2 triples out in the black and a double perfect tritium near Colonia.

I kitted out my ship with mining eqp last night.
I installed Sub Surface missles and an abrasion laser, but seemed to be less effective that the standard mining lasers.
Is there something I'm missing here?
Also, when deploying the prospecting limpets, where do you get to view the data it returns?

Target them. Fire the prospector limpet and then target it as it flys. Once it hits target you have all info
Sub surface will reveal itself once your asteroid is revealed to you

Yes. The SSD missiles are for sub surface deposits only, abrasion blasters are for surface deposits only, both of which you'll only be able to target after prospecting the rocks.

Left panel, and only if you have your prospector limpet targeted.

OK, didn't realise that. I thought that if I targeted the Prospector, then the Collector limpets would, er.. collect it!

Thanks
