Engineers Mining 500 tonnes

Quick question to the experienced minors out there, how long would it take to mine 500 tonnes with a Conda kitted out with top spec mining gear?

I just want to get an idea how long the requirement to unlock Jean is going to take me.

I managed to do it over two gaming sessions as an inexperienced miner spending about an hour and a half each.(While mining the painite at a pristine metallic ring.)

Ah ok, not too onerous then. Thanks for the quick response.

I would google around for pristine metallic rings. Also a tip.

When you first drop into a ring, boost until you no longer see NPCs and you won't have to bother with them again for the rest of your session.

You can also just wait 30 seconds or a minute (go ahead and start prospecting) until the Pirates scan you and go away before you start digging rocks and releasing the babies. Also, just use this:

Type your location and it will find you a list of nearest pristine metallic rings ;)

Lol I was just scoring the forum for some good locations, that's a great tool thanks.

1 top of the line refinery

4/5 mining lasers

2x3 (6) collector limpits

1x2 prospector limpets.

Probably an hour or less if at a ~20-30% ring. If you just care about the 500 number you might be able to get it below half an hour. It would probably take more time outfitting the ship.

Well I kicked this off today in my Conda, purely rigged up for mining. Toothless and bloated with cargo racks and limpets.

Wherever I went within 1 minute of deploying the old mining lasers an NPC pirate would be on my case. Mining tonnes of ore? I could even mine a fragment. So I thought ok I must be in a particularly unsavoury location frequented by vagabonds so I moved off to a medium security location but the blighters were at it again once I tried to get down to business there.

In the end I thought eff this and went home for my combat Corvette. Put a couple of mining lasers on, a refinery and a bit of cargo space.

Its slowing the actual mining down but at least I'm getting satisfaction of swatting the flies when they show up. The main downside is the limpets start collecting the dross that is left behind from dead pirate.

People above warned you that would happen, and gave two possible solutions.

I think you went to an extraction site, right? Just drop somewhere at the ring to avoid pirates.

Well that's what I thought but no the first site was a totally random site, no mining classification at all, I just dropped in on the ring if you'll pardon the expression. I was amazed how quickly they were popping up.

Yeah I got this initially as well in a mining Anaconda. I fitted it with turrets which could deal with anything up to the size of an Asp, but not anything like a FAS etc. Best method I found was if you fly in and see other miners boost away from them until they are off scanner. I didn't get attacked then. If you enter the metallic ring (pristine) and you are alone then you will get at one pirate ship spawn to attack you, destroy that and no more will spawn, but if it is more than you can handle and you don't have speed to outrun, exit ring and re-enter to reset the instance.

Make sure that you mine somewhere where there's painite and osmium, which you're going to need later, so don't sell them.

If you are dropping into a random part of the ring (not a RES), you will get a spawn of pirates soon after you arrive at the ring. They will scan you, and provided you don't have anything in your hold except limpets, will wander off. I usually just ignore them and spend the time they are hanging around prospecting the nearby roids. However, if you do some mining then log off and back in, you will get another spawn of pirates who will want your cargo.
I've sometimes mined just for materials with no refinery fitted. I've done this in a High RES without being bothered by pirates.
