Mining - Extraction effiency

Greetings from Njikan.

I've been mining for a while and enjoying the quietness of space, as a nice break from the action. I have been trying to figure out if there are certain tricks to finding the highest percentage of minerals/metals extracted from each asteroid. I have found some great locations so far in pristine metallic fields.

Is there a trick to it, like firing at a certain part of the asteroid gives you consistent/highest percentage? Or just fire at a random spot while the roid is spinning around, slicing a line across it's face. (Or trying to draw my commander name in the rock then realizing it's too long - very similar to writing your name in the snow haha)

I have seen mining tips in other posts or videos which related to shooting at a certain point to make picking up the ores more efficient - getting them to fly at you or away from the rock.

Anyway, any thoughts? (to the mining, not the writing)

Thanks!

Found this in the design discussion archive (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7196 )

Different areas of the surface will have different areas with different densities of certain minerals.
- When the player fires at a particular area with their mining laser for the required amount of time, chunks break off and they can then be collected with a scoop
- Each unit of resource collected fills an empty cargo canister, either as pure resource or as a mixed dust
- Each unit of dust that is collected retains the elemental composition of the asteroid it was mined from

I wonder if there is a way to visually tell by looking at the asteroid?
