Newcomer / Intro [ Mining ] - Few questions about commodities (Surface/Core - "passive" resell from FC - etc...)

Hi CMDRs,
Exploring in the dark, I initially practiced mining mostly for refueling my FC with Tritium.
Finally I like mining (in other activities) for itself, making some breaks in my trip and mining for the currrent week before continuing my trip.
I practice all minings, from laser to core, using a dedicated Python with 192T storage capacity.

1. Surface/Core dispatch of commodities

It seems some commodities are mostly or only available from core mining (ie. Grandidierite, Alexandrite, void opals...) while others are commonly grabbed from laser mining (ie. Tritium).
Am I right ?
If yes, is there a place where I may find ratio in Surface/Core dispatcch of resources ?

2. "passive" resell from Fleet Carrier.

My plan is to run my trip, mining/storing good amount of commodities, then when I'll be back to the bubble, resell them.
I have a hauler (Tytpe 8) but was asking to myself why not targeting some systems depending on local activities (ie. industrial/tourism/etc...), then staying on that system while exploring around, proposing them in my FC market at a good price.
Now, the question is, should I better do this in areas looking for (purchasing) or proposing (selling) the target resource ?
Also, as playing in solo mode, will the FC market be accessible to other players (regular on line) or only to NPC ?

3. Which commodities are best to look for ?

My initial reflex is to look for the most valuable commodities to rationalize my FC cargo space usage vs. value.
(even if I have 20k+ T storage available).
However, keeping them on stock for monthes is not my objective.
So, with the approach I target, which resources should I focus on for the best reselling/benefit rate ?
(ie. I read "Platinium" seems to be a choice target, even if not that expensive)

Thanks a lot for any hints,

O7,

1) I think you're lookiing for this thread/table: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...g-ring-type-for-different-commodities.561150/
2) Is a common business model, on both ends. NPCs don't inetract with FC markets - but players can access them from all modes, in all modes. It yould help if you yourself are running one of the EDDN feeder apps so that your FC buy/sell data will show up on Inara (and possibly other market search sites).
3) Platinum, Tritium, Silver are good high volume items - when selling on a local market (or buying from one), you need to take their demand (supply) into account. It won't help if they're buying Platinum at 200k/ton if they only want to buy 5 tons. Low volume, high value stuff could be Thargoid items - there's a steady (but low) demand for Meta-Alloys and Titan Drive Components.

When selling from your carrier there is no way to restrict how many of an item are to be sold which would be an issue if you wanted to keep some. Also when an item does sell out the order merely disappears but it will activate again at the same price if you get more of that item, if you don’t want this to happen set a Buy order for the item which will cancel the hidden sell order.

Aye, Python is nice as a mining ship, i like it as well as i like to mine from time to time. Tritium specifically is rather slow, but no choice if you need it while travelling (otherwise it's better to be bought off stations or via carrier buy order from other ppl).

Considering carrier market, i was never digging too much into it and went with the idea that splitting profit between you and someone who would haul stuff equally (unnoticeably taking just a little bit more for yourself off course) should be acceptable - and it works (at least if you are willing to give it a while to work). E. g. if you know that mined void opals can be sold for 600k somewhere, selling them for 300-350k should most likely be ok and let you find someone who'd deliver them for nearly half of the profit. Or with platinum, if you really don't want to haul it somewhere where it costs 300k as well as selling it at 180k to locals, well, sell at 230k from carrier and someone will eventually buy and haul it for you and share profits.

As for areas q, i find it that selling close to the center of the Bubble (Sol, Shinrarta...) works best - for you to check ofc, but when my carrier is parked there i see goods flowing faster.

Regarding choice of goods - well, you can sell everything. It's not that much high value metals / minerals - maybe a dozen and a half? Ppl often ignore things like gold and below (i don't ignore gold and silver as i can not be reliably convinced that gold and silver are cheap and i haul them myself as noone is interested), but everything above 100k is worth trading. Then you carry what you like in your hauler and sell the rest from carrier. Best thing about it that it's independent and persistent, you're out exploring or doing things while carrier is selling stuff.

Hi Teiri,

Thanks for the hints !

I also agree about Python as a very good miner. Probably some other are as well, but I am 100% satisfied with it.
Initially it's true I was afraid mining for tritium would be painful and boring, but grabbing an average 160 T in about 2 hours is not an issue in fact. In a few sessions I have 2+ weeks of autonomy at least.
I mostly do refill when my total reserves are close to 1500 (including cargo). I consider refill may be stopped as total reserves are more than 2000 T, but I often do some extra runs, so having between 3K and 4K T available are common.
It makes me taking a break on my exobiology/exploration trip, and finally I like mining...

About the locations to target and the kind of material to search for, thanks as well. Once it's known, it sounds logical.
Sharing profit with CMDRs accepting to haul goods for me sounds a good practice, Hauling relatively lower/less interesting values by myself will be OK as well, as I will have them in low quantity.
I initially thought about sitting on a trade route, so focusing more near center of the bubble is a good advice as well. Did not thought about it...

I am currently on the road again, coming closer of my targeted Nebula (by next 2 weeks I guess).
It's just three jumps ahead now, but I always explore around my way-points, sometimes up to next way-point with my explorer (Mandalay) before calling beck my FC.
So, reselling collected materials is far being for tomorrow... especially as it took me ~4 months to be there. :)

Cheers,
