Mining for Raw materials?

I'm trying to get some Sulphur and I read that you are supposed to mine Icy Rings. Well I'm in Wolf 397 and eddb comes up with no Icy rings in search. Do they have to be Icy?

The icy ones are best if they contain icy based rocks, yes.

Otherwise, I think you can get the grade 1 raw stuff from any ring mining, and excuse my cheeky reply ;)

You will get a few minerals while laser mining rings, I did. But not many. I would go surface prospecting in the SRV instead, unless you will be mining in the rings for something else anyway. How many do you need and what for?

I just need the sulphur to start upgrading my multis. Could I get them from fissure mining? Ive done that before but I dont even have an SRV lol.

Is there any resource that would help me locate more efficiently the mats I need for specific Engineering? I'm using Inara and eddb now but it just seems like a lot of info to take in and im all over the place.

How do I find G5 raw mats? I know to go to HGE's but Im not sure which kind of system, state, etc
Strictly speaking there's no such thing as G5, only G4.

Barnacles guarantee 1 x G4, a couple G3 and multiple G1&2. As do bio/geo sites like @Northpin said.

If you're feeling particularly plucky and grindy, fly out to a crystalline outcrop surface site, they drop nothing but G4. Closest one is a ways away though.

I started my surface prospecting while I had landed at Dav's hope. Just leave your ship parked next to the outpost, and after picking up the items around the outpost I drive out into the hills. I usually find 3-5 rocks to shoot with the SRV, no telling exactly what minerals you will find, but hopefully sulfur is one of them.

Here's how I did it (with a new account, so I already knew my way around):

Go to the Bug Killer site: https://canonn.science/codex/bug-killer-crashed-anaconda/

Grab some top-grade materials.

Go to a Materials Trader (use Inara, look for Raw materials type). Trade, and make sure you get some sulphur and phosphorous (for SRV fuel/ammo refill sysnthesis).

Then go to the Crystalline Shards: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...using-crystalline-shards.481235/#post-7706483

Fill up completely on all top-grade materials except selenium. Then go back to a Raw Materials Trader and trade down.

Repeat as necessary.

You might need to search further afield for the materials you need.
Is Sulphur all you're after to upgrade the multi-cannons?

Look on Inara for a Raw Material Trader near Wolf 397. You might have some G5 materials you can trade down for it already.
You get 216 G1 for 1 G5.

Dang this sounds complicated lol. Gonna need to make sure I have a ship for that task. My Asp Ex only has a 29ly Jump range
Type on YouTube: G5 engineering material Elite Dangerous

There's a video by Hawkes Gaming that gives you a comprehensive list on how to gather all the G5 materials you need. He even put timestamps on each one to make it easier.
I bookmarked each system in the Galaxy Map for future reference too.

Nope, in that case dont go to Crystalline Shard sites - you need at least 45-50 ly jump range, else it gets tricky (manual plotting and/or jumponium in some cases)
Try Bug killer Anaconda, you'll find the location in the Canon article i put in the link - makes for a nice experience if you manage to do some re-logs on site without going nuts (immersion!!!)
