Mining for Selene Jean - A little tip to make it go less slow...

For us who do not normally mine a lot of minerals this can be a pain in the patookus but I did manage to find a little help.

- Refining 500 tonnes takes time
- The material refined does not matter
- The COLLECTING of mineral chunks is the real timekiller
- There is no real need to have a large cargo space except for Collector limpets and a small holding for temporary materials
- Eject refined minerals to save time

So, in order to get it done more quickly do the following:

- Get the fattest refinery you can find (10 slots)
- Get the largest collector limpet control you can fit (X4 limpets at a time on a 7A if you have a ship large enough)
- If you are on a budget get the iClipper since it has a S7 optional for the limpets or if you already have a Conda or other just use the slots you have.

Now just mine EVERYTHING and let the collector drones work, might not even bother with a prospector as you can just hit a ring and skip between asteroids.

It still takes time but just having to mine and then launch drones and let them do the work saves a lot of time.

EDIT: Quick shake n bake iClipper for maximum mining speed at a cost of 37 million.

The 7 is never worth the weight. Just load up on a bunch of 5/3s.

More importantly is that you get the best power distributor you can get and cover the WEP output with medium lasers. Match or exceed the amount of MW you are running at 4 pips with active collectors so they can keep up.

Also do bother with a 1A prospector, it triples the fragments per asteroid so you spend more time refining and less time moving.

edit: yeah - your Clipper there is far from maximum mining speed.

Ah, I had no idea we could utilize multiple collector modules at once.

She also requires painite so it is worth using a prospector. You can do the whole 500 ts and get the painite in one swoop with a type 9, that's how I did it anyway. Then just sell everything you've mined to her and rank up quick with her

Yeah. Running at least 6+ limpets at the same time is a must for me. I just love to suck up dem 'roids.

I try to imagine mining BEFORE we had collector limpets and all i feel is pain from the memory.

I really hope we can get a utility ship to launch from a hangar for that purpose that can take multiple chunks.

Agree with the 5/3 (size 5 bay and size 3 bay collectors = 5 total active). 5 keeps up well with 2x size 2 mining lazers.
It helps to get close to the rock so the collectors dont have to go far. Non spinning rocks won't spread out the chunks.
You can even turn off thrusters in order to power more mining lazers without losing time [if like me you didn't check the shear power requirements of refinery+collectors+prospectors+lazers].

I like the 3A prospector as its fun to shoot two prospectors at once. You target the first after shooting, then line up your next roid and shoot off the 2nd. Usually before the time you can target the 2nd, your first has hit and you can check for painite.

Mt experience was that I had a learning curve about mining: how many mining lasers, how many collectors, what prospectors do, what minerals were found in which ring types, etc. It took me a few evenings trying out different ship builds and techniques. By the time I'd got the hang of it, I'd mined 500 tons.

Ask me, as a noob who wasn't able to afford a limpet Controller, I assumed mining be the get rich quick scheme (like in other space games) and mined with a cobra for hours and days.

I found that there was a lot to learn in mining. After getting the hang of mining lasers, collectors, prospectors, refinery, types of ring, what you find in each type, I had almost mined 500 tons. I don't think it's a big barrier. After that, the Painite only took a couple of hours.

Well, it's a barrier if one has not mined before ( i tried mining once in 2014 and have not done it since)

It does take time to get up to 500 tonnes.

if you got a conda, set it up for 11 active limpets, 1 prospector, a size 4 refinery and 4 mining lasers.

it goes like crazy like that and you allmost dont have to wait for the ores to be collected. it also helps to bring a full wing..
