Mining In Asteroid Belts

Hi, I have a question for experienced miners: is it worth mining in asteroid belts? At all? Anyone ever found Painite/Platinum there?

It depends what kind of reserves it has, go to system map for that system, hover over the ringed planet you plan to visit, and make sure you're viewing the middle tab, scroll down and a bit around the middle it will say something reserves, pristine are the best reserves, now are there more than 1 type of pristine reserves? Yes. This is the part that I don't know too much of since I don't really mine but I believe metallic pristine reserves are the best ones, don't quote me on that.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Pristine metallic is the way to go for rings, but these seem quite rare. I wondered if asteroid belts that were pristine metallic were also viable mining locations.

Not really, it boils down to numbers. Planetary rings simply have far more rocks to mine. And for your other question, yes you can find any of the minerals in belts that can be found in rings.

Also use prospect limpets, according to one of my friends they help increase income drastically

Yep, prospector limpets increase the amount of fragments you can get out of a rock. I also wanted to mention that pristine metallic belts also exist, its listed just like the rings on the system map.

Ok, thanks for the info. I'll try to find a pristine metallic belt near to where I'm located and see how of the good stuff I can find. I'm just struggling to find a good ring system to mine that doesn't involve many jumps from my home system.

I did not know this! Just started mining for the first time and found I quite like it so great info

I found a few systems just outside the bubble (maybe 5-6 jumps) with pristine metallic rings on a few different planets.. Systems have 0 population so no NPC's to cause you grief.. We take a wing of 4 out there and load up, easy money

The best local site I've found is a metallic ring with common reserves. I can find good percentages of Painite/Platinum but it's mixed in with lots of common stuff (gallite, yuck!!!)

I mine in a T7 and try to stay within 20 K of the RES (I believe that you get more shards from the asteroid this way?). I take a wing man in a FAS to execute any pirates that come snooping around. We split the profits at the end - there are better ways of making cash in ED but it's good fun.
