I second that. There should be a Fetcher-Bot you could buy for one of the Utility Mounts. Would make mining a viable option even for the bigger ships. So you've just blasted off some chunks of 'roidal rock, target the first, open the cargo-scoop and release bot. A few seconds later it deposits the rock in your cargo-hold via the scoop. Target next rock and rinse-repeat. Could also be used for collecting cargo-canisters floating about naturally.
As for the timer on rocks and cargo-items floating about, that makes sense. Imagine the radar clutter if they'd just hang around until you exited the instance. So I say that is fine as is.
After my first foray into the void shield stays cant mine without one. Way to risky!

The speed that the ore's degrade could be slowed down some, but not a lot. I like that it pushes me to grab 'em as fast as possible, and it needs to be done fast in order make credits at a decent rate. If they're gonna buff anything in mining I think it should be making platinum/paladium/gold more common. I can make about 350k/hr in my Cobra.

I've got 2 cobras (A-class kitted one combat, one exploration) and a Type 6, and about 4m in credits....and i play a LOT.
i think there are people who literally just grind and grind and grind for hours on end...
Like I said, I've made all my credits from mining, I don't really consider it grinding, I'm just having fun and relaxing, I'm not trying to get a certain rank or a certain amount of credits, just enjoying mining.
Or Protip#96 don't do your mining at resource extraction locations, but go into the asteroid belt at any other place.
I mine for my credits as well. Very easy to make money with and hardly an AI pirate able to take on my Cobra. I also mine in a pristine metallic planetary ring not a belt. So its easy to find huge amounts of platinum and palladium. You're welcome to send me a friends request in game and come mine with me. There's plenty out here to go around. My game name is the same as here.

Mining does need a bit of a tweak . I shoot off enough chunks to make 100% of whatever ore I'm mining . It's annoying when a piece disappears.
It can be relaxing through & I got the Adder I'm flying currently thru mining & rebel transmissions . Once I had the adder I got a three hopper refinery to keep my options open & scooped enough to get a decent FSD
