Ships Mining Lance - not bad at all

So, having nothing more to unlock, I went for the badmouthed "mining lance" - even tough many peoples here are just discarding the module as plain bad...

But, in my case, as a vet ResHaz miner and ONLY ResHaz 🤣 🤣.... I thought, let's give a chance to this poor module....

So, I stacked my 2 turrets of MCs ( one with corrosive) from my Vette ( I only use the Vette to mine, is by far THE best fighting miner out there....) and I replaced them with 2 Mining Lance.s ...

Next, I added one more class II mining laser in the class II slots, ( mining with just 2 class I is a pain in the ....) in the other I fitted a gimballed MC with Corrosive , added a fixed Burst in the class III slot, the underbelly one, and sure enough, the hard punching pair of class IV MC.s with OC and autoloader.

Then I go out there.... and I was more than pleased with the mix ! Aiming is easy, and I do not need to switch the fire groups when pirates are close.... I think, overall, I gained a bit of extra firepower since I can fire with 6 weapons at once instead of 5 ( my old config was 2 huge MC + 1 Large + 2 small, the 2 medium = for 2 class 2 mining lasers) now I have the same 2 Huge and one large , plus 2 small AND one medium... Is not much extra, since the Mining lance is some 82% of a beam DPS, but is comparable or even better than the weapon I used there before - a Turreted MC - I think is still have better DPS than a turreted MC. Add the fact I do not need so synth ammo for it anymore, and just alone that is a plus.

To conclude - the fact one can use an extra weapon slot AND the unlimited ammo for it is great: I do not use them for mining at long distance, since the third mining laser have the normal range of 500m, so I do not have "frag dispersion" problems at all; I did not grind them for range, but yes, for combat utility.
The heat is insignificant, no noticeable effect in the huge Vette distro, even in fight, using all weapons at once, I do not overheat...

Any of you guys is using the Mining Lance ? ....
 
Yes, I'm satisfied with them. My big miner is a T10 with 5 mining lances, in all the size 1 and 2 slots (can get toasty if I forget to put full pips to WEP), and turreted lasers in the size 3 slots, and a SLF.

When pirates show up, I can ignore them and carry on mining, while the turrets and SLF deal with the problem. If I get hassled while on my way to sell up, the turrets and SLF keep the enemy under fire while I line up the lances and zap his shields.

Seriously though as someone who is kind of "anti-meta" if there is such a thing, I really like them as well, one of the first powerplay modules I got. And I can swear they tear down asteroids quite fast for its size. I'd say they are at least a size class better than their counterparts.
 
They really are kinda bad in most areas. Power/Distributor draw vs regular mining lasers, half the damage of a C1 beam etc.

I still put them on sometimes just to flex. It's a damn shame we can't engineer them.
 
The biggest advantage they bring is the fact those 2-3 "dead" hard points in fighting mode now become usable and inflict decent damage - I watched mine dropping shields with no big troubles, on Pirates, and make the Pirates 24/7 chaff useless.
 
I use some on my main laser mining Anaconda. I like to be able to mine a neighboring asteroid while I'm still picking up from the current one. It also gives me time to send out prospectors or just relax for a minute. It comes in handy too with my fixed C4 Beam laser and the distro draw/ heat issues aren't noticeable on a big ship like that. This module is way over negatively hyped.
