Ship Builds & Load Outs Mining lasers

If you want to mine in Multicrew (but why would anyone want to do that?), otherwise - no!
Multicrew has largely passed my by, as it doesn't interest me... but as I understood it you can "switch seats" to a turret from the Helm, or am I wrong?
It seems to me that, if you can, Turreted Mining Lasers would make the T-9 a bit less cumbersome amongst the asteroid fields when using it as a mining barge.
Please can someone tell me if you can throttle down and park up, change seats (or whatever the telepresence mechanic is) and use the mining turrets as a solo pilot?
