Mining metal rich planets

Will give this ago sometime in the future on my way back from colonia come across quite a few and have book marked them with the intention of returning at a later date to mine them but and it's a big but how do you mine them if you can not land on them . I am a few weeks at least from the nearest system were I can start flogging data I have scanned used the FSS and launched probes at all the water worlds metal rich planet rings ammonia and life holding planets etc will this make a big difference in how much CR I make . Also when I return thinking of a hybrid ship mining /exploration any one with any ideas . And please don't mention corolis still trying to live it down .🤢🤢🤢🤢

You can't "mine" any planet. You can drive around airless worlds and pick up mineral resources, but that's it.

You can only mine asteroids, principally those in planetary rings.

As for what you scan? It all depends whether or not you are doing it purely for the CR. If you are looking purely at the CR per hour you can make then surface scanning only earth-likes, water worlds and terraformables makes sense. You also have to look at the distances involved. Flying 400kls to scan a water world is of dubious benefit as you could have done full scans on several other systems in the time that would take.

The big problem with combined mining and exploration trips is that, while refineries don't "weigh" anything, limpet controllers do, as does the refined ore, which reduces your jump range. For that reason I only exploramine fairly close to the bubble.

I made around 16 mill just honking systems to colonia I assumed on the return trip taking my time and doing more detailed scans would make a lot more to buy a good quality ship .as I am doing a FSS scan on all the systems heading back to the bubble I assumed I would make more than enough . As for metal rich planets unless they have rings they are a bit of a red herring as for an hybrid ship looks like I will have to go down the 2 dedicated ship route then .
