Mining missions - am I doing it wrong? Or this is a bug?

I have two missions:

1. to mine 2 platinum
2. to mine 2 painite

I went to unexplored space and found planet with metal rich ring which is pristine - it took 1 hour. Then I mined there and looked for these minerals and could not find it. Most valuable was gold. It took another hour.

Then I noticed that on galaxy map mission symbols are on the neighbour systems, which has depleted belts:
I don't have other missions.

I looked briefly in these belts and there was no platinum and painite.

I cannot find them strong signals sources because then they would be stolen and unusable. They have to be mined.

So I have to find Metallic pristine belt? Or look in those depleted belts nearby?

I've had ghost mission indicators on my map since forever. I've never bothered reporting them since they never bugged me. Maybe time someone actually put a bug report in?

You need to mine the metallic zones; you can find the stuff away from the RES where all the action is; just drop in to the belt slowly and your safety system will drop you from supercruise when you are there.

This. Plus go for the smallest rocks, and if that doesn't work, SC out and try a different part of the ring. Its like fishing, finding a good spot can take a few tries.

Metal Rich will work, Metallic is better.

You can find Osmium for mining missions in Metal Rich belts, but the other two require Metallic belts (where you can also find Osmium).

The mission markers on the map does look like a bug.

Those aren't ghost icons. Supposedly, those are systems where you'll find the Painite and Platinum. Before the patch, I used to take the Palladium mining missions and complete them with Palladium purchased at another system. Always, the mission icon for Palladium would point the way but I never used them because I always purchased it. Recommend that you go to those systems.
