Mining Mono crystal thingies.

greetings reader... another day , another suggestion from the abyssal mind of howmanymexicans AKA starship enterprises.

but before I start I wanna point out two things that made me laugh recently... in a good way

1) was the community livestream last night featuring Malic VR, an 'in the zone' Will and a 'grip your chair in terror' Ed. fantastic..

2) was this comment from Brett C, which I dont know exactly why, but made me blurt out laughing and spill some of my morning coffee

A quick Q & A...

Q: Will you enable polls for this forum?
A: No. They are disabled.

Q: Can I ask a moderator to add a poll to my thread?
A: Sure, but you'll be declined.

anyway.. comedy aside, onwards to the point of this thread...

So My home system is industrial and agricultural... so lots of mining quests from the ind stations.
that is good though, you probably know by now that I really enjoy mining, and I am really looking forward to those mining updates in Q4

but his is something for the time being... a whole BUNCH of these quests ask me to farm those mono crystal things from icy ring systems.
now I am a dab hand at mining and I know from experience that if I was to take all of those quests and attempt to complete them it would take me DAYS.

in fact, just to farm 27 mono crystal things takes a few hours of studious mining.
maybe this will change in Q4.. but for now.......
I can imagine newer players picking up a bunch of these quests, thinking that they are going to be rich!, and ultimately having to abandon most of them as the sheer magnitude of the task begins to set in.

so here is my suggestion:

I suggest that a possible reward for mining OTHER materials, say, osmium, samarium, paladium, or even some of the lesser 'rocky' materials, is a choice of some Mono Crystal thingies.

Now I know what you are thinking, having ONLY JUST resolved an issue where handing in 30 tons of Osmium will reward you 44 tons of osmium, leading to farming vast sums of gold in no time at all.

but what I suggest is that the reward of mono crystal thingies is only available from handing in OTHER materials, AND that only a small amount would be given, say 5 mono crystals.

this would allow commanders to farm the crystals by effectively trading in other materials, but it would require at least 2 or three hand-ins to collect the required amount to complete one mono crystal quest. I kind of enjoy playing the 'trade materials' game. handing in one quest and getting given an item that will allow you to complete another quest. It is another part of the mining process that I think makes it so enjoyable. It would be nice if I could involve the mono crystal thingies in this technicoloured swap-shop of material rewards.

and that is todays idea.... and probably not the last today either... sorry guys :p

you know me, full of ideas... well, full of something anyway.

what do you think of this idea guys,

comments please

You should be able to get better yields than 27 every few hours - they're not the most common material, but they're not Diamond-rare either.

Have you got any suitable Icy RES to use? Is the mining site Pristine? What about icy belt clusters - they're relatively rare, but much easier to map for repeated exploitation than a RES.

Yeah, 27 is just one mission I'll do using belt clusters only under an hour. Not gonna "get rich", but certainly won't have to abandon anything.

Also substituting a unique activity with another already dominant activity doesn't seem like a good idea to me ...

okay your right... It only takes around an hour or so to mine the mono crystal things... but that is still a very low drop rate
and yes I mine in a system that is pristine... its actually uninhabited and has LOADS of great mining.

its called Col 285 Sector KY-H C10-14

check it out if u like mining... I will stick a map below.
