Mining needs more love!

Ive just tried mining, and love how much potential it have. For now it is just not worth the time, at least in early stages of the game.

So I've mounted 2 mining lasers on my Sidewinder, got rafinery, and get into asteroid belt.
After finding asteroid with 6k/t worth mineral, I've managed to scoop 87% of first t but than asteroid got depleted.
Oh man, I can't believe I couldnt get at least 1t of it in 30min of scooping... Ah well.
Than I've tried few closest asteroids in belt but no luck, just some chepo worthless stuff.
Luckily I've managed to find one with the same mineral after 10 tries, and to bring rafinery scale to 100.
And than I've just docked at closest station and sold all my mining gear. =)

So, first problem with mining was recognizing which asteroids are depleted, there should be some visual marker for that. It is really easy to get disoriented in asteroid belt, so it would be nice to know which asteroids are done for mining.
Second and biggest problem is - it just takes to much time! And I am ok with that as long as I can get decent profit for it, but now it is just not the case.

But I really like the potential of mining, and hoping they are working on it!
What are your guys thoughts?

To mine properly you really need a refinery with at least 3 bins. You only need one mining laser.
Best place to mine is a planetary ring that is metallic with major or pristine reserves.
Move from asteroid to asteroid testing for content. Don't bother with anything less than gold, palladium and platinum.
once you find an asteroid worth mining you want to find the axis it pivots on (there must be some scientific/mathematic name for it. Can't thing of it right now), and take the time to line up with it and mine off that part so the small chunks come off in a nice line. This makes scooping much easier and faster.
You always want to be on the sunny side of the planet so you can see, and you always want to fly towards the planet to avoid going in circles.
Id say the minimum ship for mining in would be a hauler.
I made about 250-300k an hour in my hauler doing this. Not much I know, as people with better ships (like the cobra) are able to make ~500-750k per load. But it was enough to get me started.

mhm i tried a bit of mining earlier, didn't get anything great, still searching for a decent place thats better than common.

it does suck that each asteriod has maybe 6 nuggets in it
they need to do tractor beams aswell, flying into each rock is frustrating, even if you drop all engine power and have the scoop open all the time its still annoying watching the rocks bounce all over the ship, like they haven't developed a reasonable method for mining with ships that can travel faster than light, what did they do 1000 years ago, get out the ship with pick axes?

all in all its another feature so i can't really complain, it would be nice if it just wasn't clunky.

Mining how it is pretty much sucks, indeed :p

To be REALLY effective mining you need a pretty large ship, with a large refinery, so you aren't throwing away half of the stuff you mine.

It seems to be more of a late game profession. At least if you want to make really good profits from it.

It succkk big time, I won`t mining until the implement a tractor beam. Refining on a sidewinder that doesn`t make any sence at all. Factorys can refine not ships. Mining need a lot of love tbh.

ya, it'd be awesome if you could just sell the rock an it'd be valued based on the percentages of minerals in it. IE a rock has 77% mineral X worth 500/T and 23% mineral Y worth 100/T the rock would be worth (77x5)+(23x1)= 408 credits for the rock.
