I have also wondered about this myself.
I have a specific (maybe stupid) question about mining. Is it possible to mine in deep space, many lightyears outside the bubble where there are no RES?
Yes, you can mine anywhere in the Milky Way. (Apart from COL 275 SIG 7 a 3 - cos that's my turf buddy ;-) )
Although, the number of Pristine rings inside the bubble would make me question your sanity to do so.
Mining outside of bubble is currently performed by explorers looking for materials to repair SRV or more likely enable FSD boosts.
Pretty much this. Hardcore explorers looking to eek out as much LY from the FSD will not slot any hardpoints let alone refineries... unless absolutely necessary. Even then, that is going to be a whole lot of wasted time jumping out there. Then you have to consider jumping back to a port to sell it which I assume is more since you are pushing more mass with the added mats.
Why explorers include a mining laser in their builds: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/308075-End-of-the-Road
I flew an explorer ship out and searched for a pristine metallic ring out in the black. I finally found one about 700LY out from the bubble and flew my T9 miner out to it. Mined stuff in peace and quiet.
You could stay there indefinately if you had people bringing you resupply of limpets in exchange for some metals![]()
I lucked into one maybe 70LY from a big high-tech system by just pointing at a random spot on the galaxy map, that was fun and totally terminated my ambitions to go long-range miningI flew an explorer ship out and searched for a pristine metallic ring out in the black. generally there is no need to mine in a RES at all. you get some better spawn rates, but you'll deal with pirates a lot (a bit less in high security systems with system security around). mining in a RES i usually make more from bounties, than from mining... so i generally mine outside of RES, but also rarely outside the bubble. even if some remote systems make great harbours for a miner. last week i mined for a CG in the pleiades region - visually stunning out there.
there is for exampel an uninhabited system close to sol, with the spooky light of a white dwarf, and several gas giants with pristine rings of all kind, lft 65 (i think). and a lot of high paying industrial and high tech stations "next door". when i played more central of the bubble, i always went mining there. now i am mainly based at the edges, and there are a lot of pristine metallic rings around.
Presumably, given that there are no NPC pirates outside the bubble, if one had a big enough ship and the right resource site it might be profitable to load up outside the bubble and quick sneak your way back in to sell..?
1. npc pirates spawn outside the bubble with an approximate radius of ~500 ly of the last inhabited system.
2. as you can mine in uninhabited systems with pristine rings one jump from a port to sell, deep space mining is never more profitable than going to that uninhabited pristine system next door.
All uninhabited systems have pristine rings?
I thought this was only outside the Bubble..
