Mining Python

Does anyone use their Python for mining?

I want to go back to doing some mining (I know it is not very profitable, but it is quite relaxing) - I've traded my way up to an Anaconda and want to take a break from trading for a bit.

I was going to outfit my Type 7 as a mining dredge, but remembering how many pirates used to show up when I mined with my sidewinder then Cobra, I thought that a decent combat ship would allow me to claim some bounties into the bargain. Esp as NPC pirates seem to scale with combat rank, I should be looking at getting interrupted by Clippers, Pythons, Dropships and Anacondas - if recent interdictions while trading are anything to go by.

I would keep all my large weapons, fit a class 2 mining laser in one of the medium hardpoint slots, fit a 10-bin 4A refinery, and keep my 5A shield cell bank.

I know a good system with pristine metallic asteroids (that also has an outpost), so any cargo space I can't fill I could just stock up on other metals and jump to the nearest system to trade.

Any thoughts? Running costs might be the only concern I guess.

P.S. Excited to see where Painite turns up in 1.2!

Fit the large slots with large beam turrets. Ignore the npc's who come and scan you and keep mining while the turrets deal with them. It's quite funny. :)

I have indeed mined in a Python. Briefly. I did much as you plan to, but my mining threshold is lower these days.
