I've been bounty hunting in a cobra and doing a little trading in a 6. I wanted to try mining so i put a 2A refinery in my cobra. I found a pristine metalic planetary ring and went to mine it. So, the question is. .. how many chunks come off each space rock? Is it random? Do they regenerate? I am using a class 2 laser and the chunks come off pretty fast. But it seems like you only get like 10 per rock and then they just quit coming out. It seems kind of silly that you only get 10 little pebbles from a huge rock 1000 times the size a Cobra.

Newcomer / Intro mining question

It does seem silly, but it makes sense for gameplay. If you could get unlimited chunks, all you'd need to do is find a palladium source and you'd be filthy rich within a day. Conversely, if they allowed unlimited chunks to come out and only occasionally had anything valuable in each chunk, it would be too boring for a game. Only the people with infinite amounts of time to play would every make anything at mining.
So each chunk has something and you only get so many chunks per asteroid. It used to be that if you leave the instance and come back in, that same asteroid will now dispense another crop of ore chunks. Don't know if that has changed.
How do you find the same asteroid? I get attacked by a pirate, turn around to kill him and by the time I'm finished I've lost my rock.
