mining question...

I just got back from week long trip. left on day of 1.3. both good and bad there but.... anyway, I have outfitted a cobra MKIII for mining as best I could by guessing. I am ready to get the drone things and, I t hink, controlers. I have a c4 refinery as that is highest available at my current station. I am not sure how to get the drones/controlers. are they cargo that is bought at station? I don't seem to find them as part of outfitting unless I need one of the bigger slots. could someone give me some help here? I have read about how bad mining still is and how good it now is. lol all like normal. want to go try it myself. thanks if someone helps me. I can cut and paste my ship setup if needed.

Hi, and welcome back. Limpet controllers are part of internal fittings for mining you have two choices Prospector Controller and Collection Controller. Once installed go to the munitions tab and click away to add drones. I would say only buy about 25% drones to cargo capacity as the collection drones fly out and collect any resources until they expire.

I personally do not use the prospector drones as yes they tell you what the rock is made of and when it is depleted but you find you spend all your time flying from rock to rock looking for the resource you want. I believe best method is just to blast away and get your drones to pick up anything which flies off. If you have a big enough refinery you can allocate everything you mine anyway.

I have just completed 2 hours mining at a pristine metallic ring and made 334,000 in my Type 9. In that same period trading I could have made 10 million so mining is by no means the best way to make credits.

You buy limpits (drones) in the Munitions menu, and the controllers in the Outfitting menu.

The Controllers take the blank limpits, and program to the specific task that the controller is made for (prospecting, collection, refuel, etc...).

Put the controller in a fire group, and make sure you have power to the cargo scoop, refinery, controller, and mining lasers.

Shoot the asteroid until a fragment pops off (it's good to inspect it to make sure you want to spend time at that asteroid), then switch to your right pane's cargo tab, and watch the refinery do its work.

When the hopper has a fragment in it, choose which portions to keep by selecting them, then use the "reject" button to get rid of any parts you don't want. If you change your mind on one of the bins, click the arrow to the right of the contents to get rid of it.

thx for info. yes I am aware that money is not as good as trading etc. however, I like mining when it works. I will try the info above and go try mining. have to find a good site first but.... anyway hopefully if I have more questions after trying this I can return to this post for more help rather than starting another. ty again
