Mining Questions...

Hello everyone,

Just recently I finally aquired my third cobra. I've had 1 (my most expensive) dedicated to rare running (32 slot cargo bay) and exploration (Advanced Discovery and Surface Scanner). My second has been fitted with 2 Multicannons and 2 Beam lasers and I have devoted to combat/bounty hunting. The third (and I wouldn't have to have 3 rediculous ships if I could just swap modules), I immediately fit out for mining with 4 mining lasers (2 medium 2 small) and a refinery. I couldn't wait to hit the belts as it's the 1 profession I've not yet tried. When I got out there I was super excited about how the mining looked and worked (coming from EVE it's quite refreshing). I then encountered my first frustration, I would deplete an asteroid and pick up all the ore, and in the end i would get 1 unit of X mineral, and i would be at about 80%/20% of another 2 which were less common apparently in the asteroid. Thats fine, so I fly off towards the next roid and repeat. This time the minerals that come out are different, sometimes a couple match but there's always 1 I don't have room for so I have to vent the old one out of the hopper. This leads me to my first question...how do i prevent losing massive amounts of good minerals just to make room for whats contained in the next non-depleted asteroid? I cant sell ore...it has to be refined.

Second question...Dealing with the rotating ore contents of asteroids I ended up collecting enough to refine a few times for the 3 most common minerals in the entire belt. I was very sad an hour later when I got back to station and went to reap the rewards for my hard work, and was awarded a whopping 4000 credits. 4000!? for all those little things i picked up?? This is telling me that either 1. I am doing something completely wrong and theres a way to fit multiple hoppers to a ship, or B. Unfortunately mining still needs some work and there is absolutely no reason to mine for the minerals I found. I noticed while selling that there were only 2 or 3 minerals being bought at that station worth much of anything at all. Painite and 1 other one. My question summed up is, is it worth it to mine for anything other than painite and if not, is there a decent way to find belts which contain this much sought after mineral?

If you have a Cobra it means you're past the point where mining makes good money - it's a waste of time. You know why you have three Cobras? It's because you didn't mine. You can blow up one wanted ship in a RES zone for ten times as much value in thirty seconds.

Apparently 1.3 is going to make mining better, but for now, go trade, explore, or fight.

I did a single trip out in a python to mine. When it became apparent that I would have to scoop multiple times just to get a tonne I thought wait for drones.

I can see the attraction of hunting down a good site but its not a money maker compared to a single res kill.

Maybe 1.3 will change things.
