Horizons Mining questions.

Technically they are the same, but metallic rings tend to give better yields. A post (don't know which one) claims Metallic rings have a Metal/Mineral ratio of 75:25, Metal Rich are 50:50, and Rocky are 25:75.

They're not the same. Metal Rich yields many more Minerals, such as Coltan and Lepidolite. The only cheap minerals you find in a metallic ring are Indite, Bertrandite and Gallite.

I don't know if you can find every metal you can find in a metallic ring in a metal rich ring as well, but if you can, that's more than a 4A refinery can carry.

I have noticed this, I remember before ( the first few times ) I was getting coltan and lepidolite and I was in a metal rich area.. then ( due to me asking the question about where to find high value ores) I am now also finding the cheaper Indite, Bertrandite and gallite at the Metallic areas..

When I mine (only in Pristine Metallic) I only take what are called the 3P's: Painite, Platinum, and Palladium, as they are the highest value. If I'm not having much luck or I want to fill up my hold quicker, I'll also take Gold, which is higher value and fairly easy to find. It's relaxing as long as you don't have pirates after you hehehe.

I vent the gold. Don't need pirates screwing up my missions. ;)

I only do mining for missions instead of commodity market. I load up 10-20 high payout mining missions and head out to start mining whatever is required. The ice mining missions have made this much more profitable. Everybody in my neighborhood seems to want huge quantities of bromellite or methanol monohydrate.
