Newcomer / Intro Mining Questions...

Greeting Commanders!
I'm doing my 2nd farming run, first was a complete fail. anyway, I found some LT Diamonds this time at least in an Adder with 12 cargo space.
1) Do I get better loot when I use prospector limpets or more loot, or can I just laser the rocks and check what comes out without losing potential LTDs?
with only 12 limpets, I would prefer to use them for collecting only...
2) should I just test-laser rocks that glow somehow orange etc, or can LTDs also be in rocks that don't glow at all when using a Pulse Wave Scanner?
3) found out the hard way, when targetting a resource and sending a limpet, it expires immidiately after pickup (PLEASE PATCH THIS NONSENSE),
Do the limps also disappear when I send them first without a target, and afterwards select a target? I hope not.
4) when I set a waypoint to a system where I wanna sell the stuff, and the last part of the way is displayed striped, it means I don't have enough fuel to get there or the last jump is too long for my ship?
I guess in that case I need to check if I can fuel scoop on the way there, and then I could get to the selling system?
5) when I am mining, and getting tired and log out, do the Pirates come back when I re-login? I did it once, saw a few yellow contacts, but thankfully didn't get scanned or attacked, but I might have been lucky, or don't the Pirates return as long as you're in the same Asteroid belt?!?

Thanks, that's all for now, I hope :) Good Hunting, Good exploring, and Godspeed!

The pulse wave thingy Is bugged I think. It's only good for sub surface, deep core, and abrasive mining. It will highlight stuff worth checking out but you've only limited limpets.
Yes A rated prospector limpets increase yield.
Yes pirates will come back if your In the ring or even nearby.
Dotted lines indicate you need fuel to progress so a fuel stop needed.
Never highlight a collector limpet only prospector ones.
Ideally u wanna bigger ship to carry more limpets.
So get a ship soon as.
Try out subsurface. Time consuming but fun..breaks up the monotony. Also deep core if you get good..just don't blowyourself up.

Prospector limpet gets you more.

I don't think the PWA is any use for laser mining at all.

When you launch collector limpets do not target anything. Once launched, targeting stuff shouldn't affect them.

if you log out in a ring, yes, more pirates will spawn.

The colour of a scanned asteroid indicates it's content in a rough sort of way...brightly lit yellow ones of a certain shape are deep cores of one variety or another. Orange ones normally are subsurface and/or surface (abrasive)

I’ve gone core hunting in an Adder before...

It’s good for one core and then it’ll be full. If you’re looking for VO’s or LTD’s you can just drop into any ice ring at any position...

With the PWA being a bit off at the moment it may take a while, but you only need to find 1.

The Adder is perhaps the worst possible ship for core hunting, not because of its small cargo capacity but because of its very limited canopy. For best results you’d be best switching to the external camera as you pulse...

1) An A-rated prospector multiplies the number of currently available fragments by 3.5. You should almost never just laser away.

2) The laser minable content is not affected by anything that shows up with the PWA. You should also not currently try to laser mine LTDs. The money is in painite since carrier patch 3.

3) It is a feature, not a bug, and as such will not be patched. You have two options when firing collectors. Either you fire without something collectable targeted and the limpet lives for the duration and collects anything in range that is not ignored, or you target something for specific pickup and the limpet travels faster but expires when done.

4-5 already answered in detail above.

Thanks for the help and good information all!

I was following a youtube video "How to Have the Best Start Elite Dangerous Beginners Money Making Guide 2020 Elite Dangerous Mining".
Started with killstealing from Security, that wasn't too bad money in the Sidewinder. I made 5 Million relatively easily, but the Miners Guide was really lacking A LOT of information for newbs, so I had to look up a bunch of info elsewhere, including here, and find out the hard way myself. The whole Make 20 Million in 1 hour ended up taking a whole day for 7 Million only, because the triple (updated) LTD spot didn't exist, I wasted a bunch of limpets collecting just 1 item, then had to mine without any limpets left because I didn't wanna leave with a half empty ship, and the sale price was only 60% of what eddb said it would be, lol.
So, it was quite a learning experience for me.
I don't like the Adder, I bought it cause the Beginners Guide recommended it for some reason, but the cockpit has bad view angle.
Anyway, it was still fun and exciting. Now I'm at Midgley Terminal in Carnoeck, and I need a cold Beer.
This game is pretty scary. Had to fly around a weird Neutron star on my way, got smacked by a rotating asteroid with no shields, flying too close to sun, evading interdictions on a long trip to sell Diamonds...

Definitely getting that Wheat Beer now. Good Night!

Hehehehe.. guides have their merits. I always check dates for links etc. Some guides claim an anaconda in a day via mining etc. All powerlevelling yawn...
Just go at your own pace.
There is no meta for gameplay. No endgame no reward without earning it.
If It takes you a month or a year to achieve triple elite who cares? Is anyone watching? No. You play at a level you want to. Getting good at it is a whole new ballgame. For me personally it's experiencing it all. Learning from mistakes.
Engineering, mats farming, mining, combat, all have steep curves to ascend.
Good luck cmdr.

That is a guide from January. Since then, the game has received several patches that have severely affected mining in particular. I would not trust any guide that was published earlier than late July.
