Mining ship?

Hello guys
I started mining core’s yesterday becouse i had nothing to do. I bought the type 7 for it and outfitted it do do the job. It kinda works but i cant fit any shields on it so every run when i come back immat like 20%. I made some good money now (23mil) and wondering what ship is the best for mining(not the 3 big ones(corvette, clipper and the other one). I was already saving up for the python but i am wondering if there is something better.

Atm the Aspx with as many Abrasion blasters as you can fit is probably the best at fissure farming.

I use a T10 for everything else.-)

Hi. My personal preference would be the PYTHON. It has room for everything you need and it can carry a stack of cargo.
Don't forget to fit it with 2 x Abrasion Blasters :)

Cobra III, Cobra IV, Viper IV, AspX, Krait Mk II, Krait Phantom, Python, Orca, FDS.

They all perform well for motherlode mining. Pick your favorite and have fun.

that aside consider the Orca... a wonderful mining boat.

Krait is my fav:
1) I didnt have a use for it
2) Cargo size is enough for just over 1 hour, which is long as I want to do at a time.

Python would be my 2nd choice, but 1) and 2)

Im mining at lhs 6309 abc1 but my main shipyard is either abe works in ovid(has the python) or a space stating in g 180-18 called hale port there i fitted my seismic charge but it is in the medium slot i believe

For mining core materials (e.g. void opals), you'll need prospector and collector limpet controllers, refinery, plus a surface scanner, abrasion laser and seismic charge launcher.

The seismic charge launcher is only available (as of 3.3.01) is size 2, and the abrasion laser size 1.
That rules out the T7, as it only has 2 size 1 hardpoints. I've sold my T7 mining ship.

My recommendations for mining ships:-
1) Krait II. Mine now has 3 beam lasers as well as the mining gear. It's also tough enough and fast enough to get the goods back for sale.
2) Type 10. Carry a spare crew and a SLF (used as a distraction while I high wake away)

For your price range, a clipper is not a bad choice. If you have the Imperial rank of course. Especially now that the abrasion blaster bug has been patched.

Outdated info. This exploit was fixed today. One Abrasion Blaster is all you need, more don't give you any advantage any more.

On which ships are good, Vardaugas already made a good list. You can still add a few, e.g. the mentioned Keelback. All in all, as you want to get in between the chunks after cracking a rock, a slightly smaller and more agile ship is preferable for core mining. It just feels better. Just make sure to have the necessary hardpoints (one C1, one C2) and have the internals to bring all necessary tools. That's why the Cobra MK III is the absolute smallest ship to do it and i'd advise to go a little bigger.

+1 on this advice. I re-tooled my Clipper for core mining and have really been enjoying it. I can zip through the asteroid field with ease, looking for the "good" rocks to blast.

I too confirm that the Clipper's great, but of course you need Empire rank to buy it. 128t cargo, weapons on the large, abrasion blaster/seismic charge on the mediums, size 7 shield (overkill maybe), DD5 thrusters :D Mines for an hour or two before the hold is full. With all the bits it costs around 130M Cr...

An earlier poster listed items you need, but forgot one rather essential utility: Pulse Wave Analyser / Scanner...
