I've recently been trying to get back into Elite after a couple of years away. Last night I dusted off my Anaconda, kitted it out for mining, and headed off to a triple LTD site. Made over 200m for around 90 minutes work, which I was quite pleased with.
On the way back though, I got interdicted by an NPC (I only play solo). Couldn't see what ship he had, but my Anaconda suddenly felt very slow, unwieldy and basically a sitting duck. Combat's never really been my thing anyway, but this was hopeless. I just couldn't turn fast enough to even get him in my sights, and before I knew it my shields had gone, and so had half my hull. Eventually managed to escape, but it was stressful to say the least.
I have a pair of 3C beam lasers, and a 3C cannon (all gimballed). My shield generator is a 4A, coupled with a few 0A and 0B shield boosters. Shield strength is rated as 654.2
Not sure if thrusters are relevant (can't remember if they affect rate of turn, or just speed?), but they're 7D.
How can I be less like cannon fodder in my mining Anaconda, is this basically down to inadequate shielding? And would I be better off with a Python for this stuff?
thanks
Danny
