I really dig the new mining mechanics, but one of the legacy frustrations are still present- asteroids rotate a lot and add in my opinion a fair amount of taxing maneuverability work to the experience.
Now I have no idea if this is feasible at a game/engine level, but I figured I'd toss it out: The base of my suggestion is a tool or mechanic that lets a player stop an asteroid (or really any physics enabled entity) from moving or spinning as much. There are any number of potential implementations- such as letting Prospector limpets fire their rockets to slow an asteroid down. Maybe bigger rocks need multiple limpets (but you should allow players to use 1 and still get some benefit).
Alternatively- though I'd hesitate to suggest this what with the sudden influx of New Stuff to make firegroups of, a new mining 'stabilizer' hardpoint option. I don't think a tractor beam would fit into ED's aesthetic, but basically something you can point at an asteroid, turn on and hold it still. The advantage to this idea is that another player can use it to hold the rock steady while you fire subsurface or seismic missiles at the now fixed targets.
