Newcomer / Intro Mining Update

What is the current situation with regard to LTD mining? SSD v Laser? Triple Hotspots? Earning potential?

I may have read somewhere that LTD laser and SSD mining had been nerfed?

I need a few more credits.

Nothing has happened yet. Whatever happens happens when the next patch hits on Wednesday. Exactly how it affects mining remains to be seen. Nobody knows at this point.

So today could be the last day for very profitable mining then?

There is a bad news and good news for mining in the patch notes.

Bad news: Yes LTDs will now be more volatile again as their demand levels are made to operate again.

Good News: All hot-spots will be buffed to increase the probability of the "hot" mineral. Overlaps will still be most productive.

It's all in the notes:

However, it seems the intentional/unintentional affect has been, well... "Sorry CMDR's, mining now SuXxZ"

EDIT ninja'd!

Anybody know what has happened to mining in the patch?

As can be seen in the dangerous cesspit - LTD mining is not going to be a "big thing" for a while.

I mentioned earlier what the patch notes had said about overlaps still being more productive so I checked-out the 3LTD overlap last night - 120 prospector limpets - 4 asteroids with LTDs, largest yield 24% - 16%, 11% and 6.5% were the others, no LTD SSD or cores (one VO core only). All in 12t of LTD.

So unless they deliberately / specifically sabotaged the 3LTD overlap in question, basically F D made LTDs now as prolific as unicorn droppings.

I just ran a test this arvo in a pristine icy ring, Tritium hotspot and with a full load of 200 limpets I ended up with 90t Tritium - really disappointing - few Tritium asteroids, highest yield 25% (only a few in the 20's range), most in the low teens and single digits. Had several Tritium SSDs and those accounted for a lot of my haul - prolly more than a third. (Collected 6t LTDs as a by-product.)

I can see why the "explorer" FCs are a bit miffed with these Tritium yields.

So painite seems to be the way to go then? What is a good start? Triple hotspots or just your regular single hotspot? With 50-60% painite in a roid it should fill quicker than LTD ever did.

There are no known painite triple overlaps. With hotspot mechanics borked, you should be pretty fine mining in any hotspot. If you wan to maximize though, you probably want a double hotspot where the centers are very very close.
