Mining USS's

--------------------------------
The idea is simple:

USS's for asteroids that contain rare to very rare resources.

They could appear while travelling through any star systems, the chances of them spawning are higher near asteroids fields and ringed celestial bodys.

Their size and numbers could vary from small and plenty to very big and alone.

Sometimes pirates and/or other miners could already be at the location.

What do you think? Any questions, suggestions or criticism?

The problems I have are:
1) It's an asteroid, so no signal source. (unless all have ships, but then how did THOSE ships find it?)
2) Isn't this the job of the discovery scanner? Why is it missing asteroids? And if you don't have a scanner, you still spot asteroids if you get close anyway.

Maybe the asteroid itself reflects the signal of the ships scanner or creates a signal source by reflecting natural and artifical radio signals.

The discovery scanner might not be precise enough to spot single asteroids with enough detail to say where they are and therefore might classify them as not noteworthy anomalies. Also if the dicovery scanner would be able to spot a single asteroid 150.000ls away from it's position it could do so with every object big enough, like a ship that is just in normal space.
