What? Mining with collector drones was one of the major part of the update after the Power playerswell being mining was just thrown in after beta with no real thought on it at least its starting to shape up.
I used to think the same thing, but because I saw lots of posts mentioning it... I actually took time to look at the system map. Select a planet with minable rings. On the left scroll down so you can see what type of rings. Just about that, literally just above it it says Depleted, Low, Common etc.

making drones indestructible and With no time limit would fix some problems.
At the moment they seem to like to ram my ship and break.
No fix to refinery UI basically is one of the biggest disappointments of this patch
The refinery is fine, now with limpets doing most of the work, handling the refinery is the only task I have during mining. Automate that and there would be NOTHING to do.. Head to an asteroid field, spit out limpets, let turrets take on pirates.. You just sit and twiddle your thumbs.
Besides, I quite enjoy "juggling" ore with the refinery and getting the best I can.![]()
So you're satisfied that the only task left in mining is the most mundane and repetitive one?The refinery is fine, now with limpets doing most of the work, handling the refinery is the only task I have during mining. How many fragments did you actually mine so far?
If you 'dig the mining gig', then that's great, and I can kind of see a zen element to it, but for me, it's just bore-ing.
So here's my view.
I can take trade Beryllium/Resonating separators between to stations, and make 4 million credits per hour in my Anaconda (432 hold).
This implies to me that mining, and the desire for the mined product, is SO FREAKING LUCRATIVE that a person just delivering the stuff needed to the miners, can make nearly a 25% profit delivering supplies, for all intents and purposes.
Yet, I rigged my Anaconda for mining, went to a Pristine Metallic ring, and started... and found that in four hours, even with collector drones, even prospector drones, even with finding asteroids with 40-60% palladium and platinum, I was making roughly 250,000 credits of bars per hour.
Literally, my turrets were making me more money as I was mining, attacking the constant flood of pirates that kept on thinking I was easy pickings... even though they were in Cobras and Eagles.
While this amount of cash is better than I remember in 1.0, it's still too far behind. The fact that I was nearly tripling what I was earning by accidental bounty hunting speaks volumes for how messed up the player economy is.
I'll be frank, I uninstalled, because at this point, I'm not sure what else I have to accomplish in the game. I feel like the only thing left to do is just fully combat-fit my Anaconda, which means I'm either going to Trade/Bounty hunt as I see fit, and really I think I could just skip it, and say I did. I'll probably wait until there is some sort of First Person walkaround/land on planets/stations before I decide to come back. I just don't see the point in playing anymore, and the current iteration of Powerplay is not appealing to me whatsoever.
You state you can't see how I'm making so little, yet your post shows that even at your max (900K) that you're making less than a quarter of what I can make in an hour trading.I am not having a go at you but I cant see how you are making so little. I consistently make 600 - 900k per hour in my Asp since the drones have come out. In high intensity I add another 400k of bounties.,It would be much higher if the two deployed collectors work separately instead of getting in sync and one just following the other. I have 64 tons of cargo space, I load up with 60 tons of drones, fire of prospectors to find a good yield of High value ore. While mining it and the collector(s) are doing the their thing, I am managing the refinery and firing prospectors at other distant rocks to find the next premium target. If I am moving towards a close rock I fire the prospector to one further away nearby to sample that as well.
Busy Bust Busy. Yes its mundane but that's what I want (mixed with so pirates attacking me, time flies). I just wish I had more cargo space for more prospectors.
Things I wish they would change is that if the refinery has a free slot just put the ore in it. I can void it if I don't want it. Also I would like the limpets I have places to stay on the rocks for a while rather than expiring on launching the next one, so I can retarget them to see if I have mined it or it was previously tagged.
I certainly don't want to automate everything otherwise it would be too boring .
I got myself a 250Mio Anaconda fitted for mining. It makes about 15,000 cr. per hour...
Prospector drones take to much time as they are now. Until it is there and has the data, the asteroid is already depleted. It would be useful to have them "hop" from Asteroid to asteroid and mark them, but using one drone per piece of rock is simply pointless.
The collectors on the other hand are cool. They let you take advantage of the bigger ships.
There need to be bigger (than 4A) refineries with more slots and hoppers.
And last, but not least, there should be more usable ore in the Asteroids. I spent the whole day mining with my totally refit Anaconda in pristine metal-rich "High"-RES for about 60,000 credits.
edit: but yes, it is MUCH MORE FUN now, when you don't need to catch every single piece of ore
