Minor faction descriptions

.... Are there any, or is it just the names? I'm looking to ally with one of the factions in my home system, but without knowing anything about them, it's hard to make a decision as to which one to go with.

I've checked INARA and EDDB, but that just gives me their status, but no actual information about who they are or what they represent.

Any help would be nice.

I wonder if you are not looking for Player Groups, rather than Factions. Player Groups/Squadrons can become associated with a Faction. On INARA or EDDB search for Factions associated with Player Groups. If you don;t find a player group/squadron associated with a faction that you like, you can create your own squadron, and link it to a faction. Then, while you are in that squadron you can fly that faction's Tag. It's the closest thing to joining we have in game.

You can find some organizational information on factions in your right side panel, under the Status tab, select the faction of interest, and hit enter. A page with some data will pop up. You have to be in a system they are represented in. Similarly if you are in a station you can open an interesting faction's offerings on the Mission Board. When you have a faction selected on the mission board, in the upper right corner segment of the UI is some data as well. It is not much and no more than you find in your ship's UI, but it is available.

Scroll down to government types. I seem to remember actually finding actual lengthy descriptions for some factions in the galaxy map or system map.

They all have generic descriptions according to their government type. I think there are a few factions with unique descriptions but the only one I've run across was a faction made up of former imperial slaves loyal to Aisling Duval because she freed them.

Only player made factions get to have a description, which can be found on their home system information in the galaxy map. Most of the time, the writing isn't very good.
