Minor factions joining/leaving major factions

The current dev update made me wonder if it would be possible for minor factions to join or leave major factions. This is one of the few static states in our dynamic galaxy.

We would need a new faction status like "seperation" or "assimilation" and some new missions to work towards these states. Once the critical trigger is reached a civil war occures, things could get spiced up with community goals.

I think that'd be an interesting point to develop and would make sense in many aspects, perhaps mainly for group supported minor factions though. It'd also have to be something that's fairly restricted in terms of how often it happens, because while we want to be able to alter the Elite universe, we can't have the faction composition shifting dramatically everyday - but perhaps if it was a CG style thing, who knows.
