When the krait was announced I thought I'd go and find out what a krait actually was. On wikipedia it redirects to Bungarus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bungarus) which sounds like a pretty nasty snake. At the top of the page it mentions the pronunciation '"krait" is pronounced /kraɪt/, rhyming with "kite"'.
This just sounded odd, so I went and had a look around to see if that really was the correct pronunciation. On https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/krait there's an audio sample of someone saying the word and it sounds like krait does rhyme with kite rather than rhyming with crate.
