missile and torpedo question

So i'm planning my next build, a kinda all-purpose combat python to be my primary run-around.

intending to use the side size 3 hardpoints as the primary weapons (burst lasers maybe?) , the nose one to have a size 3 plasma accelerator
main questionis this? for the mediums that will be primary weapons, would it be better to have expanded capacity packhound launchers, or penetrator payload torpedos

how good are penetrator torpedos?
is it something that could decently cripple on of the big three if I got a solid power generator hit?

or would dumbfire penetrator missiles be better for that sort of thing?
basically never really used missiles and im looking for something that works as a supplemental bonus

Last time I tried them I was quite underwhelmed. It felt like they lost all their ability to be effective against hard points and hull, and in return just because awkward high-yield cannons. That was a while ago though, so things might have changed since then.
 
The torpedo's main issue is that there is no synthesis as for multicannons etc. Four torpedos once fired leave you with two empty medium hardpoints. And the damage of four torpedos is somewhat mediocre at best. My reverberating cascade torpedo pylons are collecting dust for that reason.

High capacity packhounds should be a more viable alternative and offer some useful experimental effects as well.

Let me give you a great piece of advise.

try to match you python loadout by sides. place one large burst paired with a medium burst. (on the same side)

Then place a packround and another weapon on the large one. and leave the odd one (plasma) on the ship belly


For your loadout this last weapon probably would be a cannon or a multicannon.

That's my tip...
