Technically the mines don't fire backwards. They launch and remain stationary unlike missiles which maintain a certain velocity until they explode. The fixed point missile rack with clip size 8 and ammo size 16 works like a charm. All missiles fire as intended. The 12 clip 24 ammo missile launcher that I upgraded to was horrible though. The first 6 or so missiles fire normally and then the 18 missiles I have left all glitch out and lay like mines. Technically they aren't even shooting backwards. They are just being launched out like mines and remaining stationary. The only reason it looks as if they are firing backwards is because most people are usually accelerating or moving forward when they fire their missiles. Try throttling down to 0 and fire one of the backwards firing missiles. They will just sit directly behind your ship until they explode. I've noticed most NPCs with missile launchers also experience the bug. They fire 6 missiles at me during the fight and after that every time I get "Incoming Missile" and I check my radar it shows a white missile dot at the exact same location as the NPC and unlike the first 6 they don't fly past me or even towards me they just hang in place. Obviously if I'm moving away from the NPC when he fires one of the bugged missiles it looks like it's slowly moving away from me. The first 6 missiles have no problem catching up with me in the span of a second or two when I am running away so the difference between the velocity of the normal and bugged missiles is what has led me to believe that the missiles are simply being laid like mines. Obviously the way the launcher is coded makes it think it's shooting mine ammo instead of missile ammo. Very strange. Shouldn't be too hard to fix. Needless to say I sold the POS and went back to my ammo limited original launcher. :/ Would be nice to not have to go to the stations as often. Hopefully they fix this soon. This problem has existed since release and quite a lot of time has elapsed since then. For debugging purposes I had the bugged missile launcher in question on the right front mount of my Cobra Mk III.
