Missiles still need a buff

Now that we have seen how missiles work in the old days (21st century) one could imagine that there was some serious
development from then and until now....year 3302.

Missiles and mines need to go back to school and lean how to be a proper missile.
 
No. working as intended. Missles are fine in solo mode. Mines should create their own private group if they want to be useful.
 
Agreed. The only effective explosive is the torpedo, which is extremely constricted due to the ammo count. Synthesis barely helps.
 
I equipped a couple of torpedo launchers and hit an Imperial courier to see how they went. Answer: Two torpedoes, one shield ring damage. Rather surprised.

You cannot synthesize torps.
They are only useful if you got something to punch down shields, and want to run home after your firecracker went off.

Makes me laugh every time I see these clips.

I agree missiles need to work better but it would be deemed open to exploitation.

On the serious side, if people use the ECM and other equipment to counter, like chaffs, flares etc that should counter the balance.

I play a lot of DCS and when you are in a fight you always need to counter this, and it works pretty well. I have not seen any situation when its exploited so you can clearly do it, if you do it right.

If you detect missile lock you need to jam it or fire chaff. Missiles should also come in different versions, like heat seeking, radar homing, laser tracking (SRV can paint target and ship can fire).

They're for hull damage, not shields - see vid! Agree with the disappointing missiles tho - they make a big explosion and that's about it!

There are so much FD could do with missiles, when multi crew arrive they could make some of the missiles use optical tracking, fire missile and second crewman (weapons officer?) use the nose cam on the missile to track its target :D that could be fun if it did any damage.

Oh damn, I didn't realize that torpedoes weren't craftable. Honestly I had only noticed that there was an option to craft explosives, so I assumed that meant all explosives. My bad :-(

I understand and agree with all you have said. Unfortunately, a sad few have ruined them for every one of us.

Back in the early days of ED v.1, I was blown to pieces while departing a station, before I got to the exit. Not sure of what happened I launched again but more cautiously. That's when I saw a CMDR spouting missiles (probably dumbfire) everywhere. I quickly logged out to avoid his/her shenanigans. Slowly but surly, this game is getting ruined by childish and immature players.

Again that brings us back to the punishment & crime section of ED that is utterly bonkers ATM.
 
I heard someone say that missiles were better now so I fitted some small seekers on my cobra to test it out.

It took 20 missiles to destroy a Viper Mk IV once the shields went down for a cost of 10k credits.....not better in any way.

I thought FD said they would look at weapon balancing....soon.

Couldn't agree more - the balancing counters for missiles are limited stock of ammunition and the exploits can be blocked by effective station deterrants. The weapon designers in FD really need to learn that weapons are designed to try and kill ships.
