Missing Cargo

Newbie mistake I think, but I just accepted a mission to supply 15 units of Bromellite for a mining rush and failed to read that it had to be mined. I bought it instead at a fleet carrier but now I've arrived at the station where the mission was accepted and I have zero cargo in my inventory 😭. It practically wiped out 3 days of grinding away. Is this a bug, or did I screw up by buying instead of mining??

🤷‍♂️ There's some bugs with fleet carrier transfer atm. It may just magically appear in your hold later or after a relog. The game does differentiate between mined and purchased goods so you may still get boned. But you should be able to sell it at least.

You must mine it or it doesn't count, you can't buy it or it would be a cheap and easy way to get credit/rep. If it just says "supply" and doesn't mention "mine" at all you can either buy or mine, but if it says mine, it means mine!

Actually for the missions that isn't true. You can palm off bought commodities for substantial profit. The carrier bought commodities don't appear in your hold until you visit the commodity screen in port(works like magic for smuggling). Then you should be able to hand in the the mission.
The differentiation between mined and bought commodities only seems to be applied for CGs.

I hope it gets sorted soon!! Well, I logged back on and there was my cargo back again (hooray) but the station didn't want it at all (boo). I used Inara to find somewhere that would take it and travelled 220ly to the indicated fleet carrier that had a demand and would pay 10% of what I paid. Hey, you win some, you lose some. Only problem is, despite Inara insisting still that the fc wanted over 300 units of bromellite their has no demand for anything. what?? At least I made a paltry 300k from selling the exploration data accumulated en route.

Didn't work for me I'm afraid. I logged back on to find the cargo in place, but even after leaving the station and returning, they didn't want it, either as part of the mission or on the trade market.

for cargo that should be there but isnt do a relog.
generally if there is something missing that you know should be there do a relog.

Maybe the OP is unaware of cargo depots, or how cargo missions work ...

.. and you can sell most things anywhere - except fleet carriers, there just might not be much call for it so you don't make a profit.

@Factabulous so why does Inara claim there is demand at the FC where I currently am, but it clearly doesn't?
I may as well just jettison the lot and take the 40million loss

I'm guessing the data is just a little out of date is all. I've travelled to FC's to Sell or Perhaps buy something and the numbers have always changed slightly vs. what I see in Inara. If someone who is feeding data to Inara makes a trade, it's logged - dunno if there's much of a delay updating the data or not - but if someone not feeding Inara makes a trade, nothing gets updated. At least, that's how it used to work I think.

when doing market decisions based on inara remember to check when was info updated. if you go to the carriers page there should be something like

inara even offerst the option to sort search results by 'updated'

Except that it did show the update was just 45 minutes old when I arrived there. Well, live and learn - avoid fleet carriers and read missions properly!
