Missing mission types? where the heck did they go and why?

There's one mission type that I miss. Pilot Rescue.

Doing those was really fun, and you actually had to search for those guys, crashed somewhere on the planet.

They're gone, though, for unknown reasons. It sure wasn't because they paid well.
They were slightly silly in that there were two ways to do them:
1) Find the mission, go out and look for a nearby pile of escape pods, hand in to complete the mission.
2) Scoop up a giant pile of escape pods as you go along, then hand them in to whatever missions you happen to see.

Arguably the Search and Rescue contact - now that it pays a decent amount for escape pods in 3.0 - is basically a permanent version of that mission.

(But I would like to see a "rescue a specific crashed pilot" version of them return in future)
 
All passenger missions I see are sightseeing adventures and those where some noname wants to go half way to the next galaxy and collect dumplings from somewhere. All I want to do is some easy station to station hoppings and not even bother with the rewards but those are gone from my mission board.

Find a different region to work? I'm getting loads of rich tourist, prisoner transport, refugees, businessmen... single jump destinations, and slowly refining this region down to a handful of systems/ports that have loads back and forth or to the same few destinations. I've no idea if my relative success is linked to system/starport economies & states, but for now, the rewards keep increasing as my status improves - 1.5million for transporting 30 passengers ~10ly is pretty decent.

After working in a local area for a while, I see links between neighbouring economies and faction states that produce an increased volume of particular cargo/passenger mission types. I should probably start noting them down as a contribution to some collective knowledge on this (in a similar way to how the BGS 'rules' are gradually being uncovered and recorded).
