The mission suggestion thread
Today I've got to a couple of places where the bulletin board is completely blank. Nothing going on. This makes me think of a comment in the latest video from FD, where one of the developers speaks about how hard it is to make such a massive galaxy interesting to play in. Rather than whine about this, I thought I'd try to think of some mission types, and perhaps others in the community can do the same:
- Smuggling missions. Take Jabba's consignment of sugar to his contact in Aulin, avoiding federal attention for a big reward. This should be one of the riskiest and fastest way to make money ("Hey Jabba, even I get boarded sometimes!").
- Snooping missions. Follow another ship and report back about their movements (not necessarily an NPC ship). Hover outside the windows of a Coriolis to plant a listening device..
- Long range missions. Take my precious cargo/news to my contact 50+LY away.
- Rescue missions. Hunt down the eloped lovers and convince them to return
- Revenge missions. Kill the pirate who murdered my ex.
- Terrorist missions. Leave a bomb behind on an outpost (!)
- Military missions. Troops with powered space suits could be carried into the hotzone as cargo, jettisoned near the target (like a hostile outpost), then you have to loiter stealthily while they kidnap/rescue/kill the target, then scoop up the escaping troops under fire before escaping into hyperspace.
- Spec-ops missions. Fly into this space station superstructure while it's under construction, and blow the main reactor control tower!
- Missing persons. Fly into a warzone and earn a reward if you come back with news of a particular ship
- Humanitarian missions. Take 50T of grain into a warzone for no reward.
Also I think combat should be generally easier to find. You should never be very far away from some sort of space ruck - feds hunting pirates, independents warring with feds, civil war, trade embargos, etc. News of these low-level conflicts should be spread through maybe a 20LY range.
This is human space after all. It should be a dystopian seething mass of rat racing, politics and brutality on small and large scale - just like Earth right now.
Any more ideas?
*Edit* I've updated the title and bumped this thread, as it didn't get much discussion first time around
