Mission board - is this a bug?

I am confused.

i though "mining rush" missions are something you should expect in refinery stations.

today i went over to a Agriculture System, with two Agriculture Stations (no secondary attribute), with most factions in Boom
- and the board was filled with Mining Rush missions.

should i report this as a bug or can someone explain me the logic behind this? [wacko]

nope, the mission boards are pretty much a total poop show right now. I cycle two or three times in a boom system and allied with most or all the factions, nothing but stingy payouts, then log off. Will play more again when the board is working better or the occasional time(s) I find something worthwhile.

Dear Fdev; I don't want to play wing delivery missions, try a separate board for that and quit spamming the regular mission board.

There, rant complete.

Honestly, there's something majorly messed up with the proc generation at the moment, it's not random enough (notwithstanding my usual gripes that you should need to select faction and broad type first).

For any given mission board (separated by faction), it's always ~80% one *specific* type of mission, and it's not based on state/economy/type, as modeswitching will achieve a similar board, but with a different type.

e.g given same system, board, station, state, faction. In Solo, 80% Wing Pirate Massacre missions. In Open, 80% donation missions.

I agree, wing missions need their own board, similar to the passenger board.

I had one time recently when the board was all wing missions. Various types, but still, every one was a wing mission.

This seems to vary a lot between stations for me.

Randgnid: 80% mining/wing mining missions, the rest more mixed, hardly ever see data courier
Ratraii or Ogmar: complete mix of cargo, courier, mining, legal piracy within each faction

There's certainly something not quite right. The only pattern I can see is that the more potential mission destinations within 20 LY - especially orbital stations - the more diverse the mission selection.

(It's still a big improvement on pre-3.1 where stations with few systems within 20 LY would rarely have more than a few missions on the board at all, but yes, more variety would be good)

so, i can consider this a bug and will file a bug report.

wing mission are bugged by design, because their rewards are 75% to low, and the rewards are not split correctly between contributors
-> but that is a completely different topic.

Did a bit of board flipping and noticed that too, open would always give me the same types of missions and solo slightly different but the same everytime

Can't really share that experience. Though I have to say that in Solo mode the best paying Missions pop up almost 70% of the time, whereas in Open and PG not so much.

hmm, its not that haven't raised a topic about that more then a year ago.. maybe two. that suggestive the spawn rate for npcs and mission board entries depends on the mode (like when in a wing the elite medium and big ships stopped spawning)

and yesterday, beeing in a wing in PG almost made me fail a massacre mission because the mission targets refused to spawn.

I have a running, albiet, unprovable theory, that as far as procedural generation in ED goes, there's a mutual interaction between client and server which, given high latency conditions, results in fairly homogenous outcomes. For example, if you're hunting for USS, and aren't finding any, you'll continue to not find any, and if you find one, you'll likely find a few (until you drop into one, essentially changing local instance and hard resetting it).

I don't know how much of mission generation is server-side and how much is client side... certainly all the state information etc. would be server-side information, but knowing that mission board latency is a massive issue, some of the actual mission generation aspects would (assumedly) be kept client-side. I just wonder if there isn't some loop where the client says "Hey server, I finished generating a mission, give me another type for that state" or something similar, and if it doesn't get a response then, it just generates another mission of the same type to expedite the generation process.

Or at least, it feels something like that i.e "I can't get a timely response, so I'll just generate based on what I know"

I can almost guarantee that missions are all server side because many, many times I get the message "Cannot Connect to Adjudication Server" and so I end up not being able to look at the mission board at all.

Unless I'm missing something fundamental here.

There's a couple of posts somewhere from the mission devs explaining the split.

As I remember, the missions get generated server-side in terms of type, destination, etc. but are then adjusted to match your Pilots ranks client-side.

I used to get those in an ag system all the time, fwiw.
