Mission Board

Not that it bothers me much, but perhaps they could start generating the mission info after the player requests docking permission. That way, by the time they have docked all the info will have been cached and instantly accessible.

They could start generating the loading screen for the station as soon as you enter the instance that a station exist in. Since it is clear that you are going to dock 99% of the time. It seems like a real basic design flaw that it doesn't. I get that bandwidth is a thing, but seriously you can't do anything at the station without using the station menu. So the bandwidth is going to be spent anyway.

Not only is it possible and probable but very probable that you will access the mission board with every instance you dock at the station.

So with most times when you go to the station you will be using the mission board I'd wager that value to be 95%. > ENGINEER THAT PERFORMANCE INTO THE GAME FRONTIER!

- i have no problems, you are the problem
- change your internet provider
- find a real job and get faster connection
- learn about port forwarding
- im 60 and i have patience you spoiled little brat, get of my lawn

this has been going on since forever... I doubt it will ever change because its costly and FD`s main design philosophy seams to be "low budget and simplicity of development before everything"

I feel you.. Next to lacklustre PG in most areas this is my second biggest issue with the game... Elite was never laggy, one of its main features for me was that it had no loading times except for the initial one... This makes this game not really Elite for me but more of a crappy MMO

I don't think a 15-19 second load time is due to my internet connection. In fact I can complete a nettest in the time it takes for the mission to load. Wanna challenge me to that? I'll proove you wrong!

We are in agreement here...

the stuff after "in before:" is more or less what certain people here often repeat in threads like this (with a bit of an exaggeration on the last one)

the official version is that the game is fully seamless and has no loading screens whatsoever

What they could do is generate a "seed" for missions on their server backend,
which is transferred to the player client, generating the missions according to the seed
on the client side.

To counter tempering with the missions client wise, they could send a "checksum"
upon mission accepting to verify the player took a mission they "seeded".

The mission board indeed is a sore wound.
I think a change in this manner would help reduce server load aswell
for spiking hours.

One of the things I noticed most prevalent since I started up again was this annoying lag time. Can't imagine making it by the skin of your teeth then getting cheated out because the lag took that extra 30 seconds to open the menu so you could complete the mission then time expired. Haven't had that happen, but it would seem to be a problem.

Is there seriously nothing that can be done to reduce the lag time and make this fracking go faster?

There is the station loading time when you dock, so 2-5 sec, then the mission board loading 5-15 sec. None of this should take more than 1 second anywhere in the galaxy ever.    ?

oh no 5 - 15 seconds ....

/s

My point is, there should be no 15-19 second wait for any of this. At most this should be a 1 sec delay. Maybe two seconds if there is heavy traffic. I'm online right now, it's not peack time at all. And it's taking 15-19 sec to load the board, taking additional time per mission as well. I'll spend at least 5-10X as much time in the station as I'd want to because of these delays. WHY?

Have mission boards become slower since 2.1, i.e. after we got used to having it load the character faces? I feel like the mission boards loaded slightly faster only a mere month ago.

If the load time issues are this recent I wonder what the cause might be?

Agreed OP. The mission board is getting annoying now.

[NB: The mission board takes time to load because of realism! It is simulating speed dialing all of those people on the contacts list. And 19 seconds? Mine averages 23! (NB: Figure more than two days old. Figure might not be valid. No animals were tested in making the figure (the cat can't count anyway). This figure does not affect your statutory rights. This figure not valid within .22ly of Hutton Orbital.) ]

They might as well add the handshake sound of a 56k modem. For realism :)

That would be nice.
But I think FD is aware of this and they do what they can.

In a previous thread about this very subject FD said they are going through things to speed it up but, that it would be a ongoing process with no quick fix. You can go search for the post.

Don't worry, Long Star. Soon the delay won't matter, since you'll be able to insta-teleport the assets you need to cover all of missions on the mission board anyway. So while the 10 second wait time will still be a thing, you'll be able to wipe mission boards clean with no planning and no effort once you get in.

If it's any consolation it's not just the mission boards, exploration scanning has become similarly laggy in the last couple of weeks. Not enough server bandwidth/capacity? Who knows, but those servers need to git gud™.
