Newcomer / Intro Mission changed against my will?

Ok. I decided to avoid searching all the universe for combat stabilizers to complete the first federal mission, since they're like super rare and I didn't want to waste the day for that. So I took a mercenary mission for some money. Once there the npc said not to kill him but the contractors, and the mission changed. I wanted to go for the original contrat and killed him, result: mission failed. Really? Did I do something wrong or you can't choose who to kill to complete a mission like that?

Did you maybe, accidentally accept his offer? I've heard that NPCs can offer a change to your mission, but you have the option to accept or decline the change. It could be you accidentally hit the accept option, or need to change your controls you ensure it doesn't happen again. If you're absolutely certain that you did nothing or didn't even see an offer then perhaps a bug.

No I didn't but at least now I know it's a bug or something wrong in my controls.
Actually I decided to try and find those stabilizers, like 150Ly away. I can't plan the route, I suppose it's another bug...

Unless you're willing to sit and wait for a LONG time for it to plot the network of jumps that far (I don't think it even will past 100 ly) just head in the general direction for 70-80 ly.
