I picked up a mission at the starport to disable power generator at this settlement on the planet. Mission was in my left panel in the "transaction" tab. I flew to the planet, looked around and found some mineral deposit, so scooped it. When I did, the message comes on saying that my explorer rank has gone up. Ok, I wanted to do the mission then but just to check what exactly I have to disable, I looked to my left panel to the "transaction" tab. It was empty[where is it][where is it][where is it] No mission, no nothing. I wouldn't worry about it, but the mission was paying over 500k and I need the $ now. Am I going mad here?? What happened with it?

Yep, it's a bug that missions disappear from the ship's transactions tab when you go out in an SRV or a SLF. They come back again when you change the instance, for example by going into supercruise, but as you discovered, they are still visible from within the SRV.
