Ships Mission Mandalay?

So, I just got the Mandalay, and it's almost a s/Asp Explorer/Mandalay/g for my playstyle.. my Asp, despite being the go-to for all my xeno studies and exploration, was just short a Class 4 slot or two... something the Mandalay corrects quite well.

But I digress... a perpetual embuggerance to the areas I run missions is how many systems get targeted for long-distance destinations (50k Ls+). With SCOs, this is no longer a problem, but my usual Python loadout would struggle to incorporate a fuel tank to make the longest distance of ~200k, so I'm looking at the others

The Python MK2 is way too combat focused to be my mission runner (given I need rackspace for salvage, hijack and delivery missions)

But the Mandalay feels like it has all the right slots to form a slightly lighter version of my Python, compensated for by superior manouvering. Has anyone tried making a Mandalay for mission running, specifically being able to do most basic missions, but not wing missions or very bulk cargo missions?

... or should I just wait for the Corsair?

I use the Mandalay as both PP and general mission runner. Depending on if I equip a scoop, I can carry 64 or 80 t, it is decently armored and shielded, brings nasty weapons, an interdictor (could be swapped for a DSS), SRV bay, and a four limpet operations controller. I even go bounty hunting with it. Jump range is 45 ly empty or 38 ly with a full hold, total range about 300 ly. It has easily become my favorite ship for almost everything except really heavy combat or large cargo stuff.

Multi Mission Mandalay, 60 LYs + (with V1 SCO, not shown here), 80 tons

Put a 6B SCB into the Class 6, it will do the FDL/Vulture pirates with ease (gives you a total of 3000 MJs). No heatsinks needed in the Mandalay with SCBs.

What it is also great with the Mandalay: Zero pips to engines and it is still relatively fast.

Hmm... just a matter of personal preference, but I'd happily sacrifice that 60Ly for some HRPs and military armour....almost all missions I'd do are a 20Ly range max, so i don't need more than that as minimum.

Ymmv, but i just don't like relying on a pure shield build in the event of accidents.

Honestly I'd wait for the Corsair. I expect (I know I know) it to be an updated Python/iClipper which would make it the very ship you're looking for.

Might be wrong, and I'm exactly in the same spot as you regarding a mission runner.

Same as I am. Totally no idea how to build this ship. Don't need yet another explorer, my trusty DBX is fine. No need for yet another multi-role ship. Guess I'll go with two; purely combat build and hatch breaker pirate. Does anyone have any combat builds for Mandalay?

I think that is the advantage this ship has, it can be adequate in a number of roles. I really like it. It's my primary "daily driver".

I'm just getting started with engineering. Just got the Guardian FSD Booster, now at 46Ly. For what I do, that's not too bad, and it can easily be outfitted to reach 80Ly+. I like that it's fairly quick at 324/406, and it's agile.

My last primary was the Asp X. Nice ship, but the Mandalay beats it hands down. Definitely better than my Krait MK II.
