Newcomer / Intro "Mission Objective Detected"

I was just gathering materials in my SRV when the above came over COVAS. I didn't have any missions on the go and the scanner wasn't throwing up anything unusual. Never had this before and am a bit confused as to what gives. Did I miss something?

Cheers.

EDIT

I take off then see this:

I get closer, enter the instance, and get this:

And then this:

Ah OK, so there are two unrelated things here. As to the screenshots, is this a megaship? It did say to use the data scanner which doesn't appear to be s module I have and the standard scanning suite picked up nothing.

Despite the comms warning, no hostiles rocked up.

That's one of the new structures that got introduced with the update:

Not sure it's a bug.
Mission objective detected used to come up near trade ships.
It's possible they're now also coming up near the new 'structures'.

Not sure why they do this - unless it's to lure you in.

When you get the help needed message you can help defend the structure.
The good guys usually turn up immediately, the bad guys are usually marked 'wanted'.

So you can join in and collect a few bounties.

Ah right! Cheers! Evac time - that Phantom is completely unarmed :D

It's not a bug. It's a mini scenario. Like the distress calls or tip-offs we had previously.

I find them fun to do, sometimes. I would hardly call them a "spam", though. I get one or two of those during one session. If you get them constantly, that might be a bug, though.

Spam when not referring to the processed meat like product can be defined as irrelevant or unsolicited messages seems close enough to me.

Actually going way back to my dim and distant youth when I would occasionally go drownding maggots with my father when no maggots were available we would use the tinned meat as bait which could also be a valid definition of these messages.

I got one of those messages last time I was mining. Then when I went to sell my hard earned ore I found a blue mission USS in my navigation panel. I thought it was going to be someone offering me a mission.

I was flying a mining Asp X with a full hold of platinum and enough gold to finish bribing Lee Chung so I decided to skip it.

Has anyone tried using the FSS to see if there is a temporary signal that might be a mission giver?

There are ad-hoc trade missions that can appear in systems depending on the State of the controlling Minor Faction. They also use a Mission USS and if you drop in you'll find a trade ship wanting to offer you a mission. If the Mission USS is more then 1000Ls from you, you won't be able to see it in the Nav Panel, unless you use the FSS or scan the Nav Beacon to reveal all the USS in the system. They've been in the game for a long time, it's just the system-wide notification that's new.

Because the USS are now semi-persistent, all USS that are created while you're in the system produce a notification at the top right of the HUD, both the regular type and the Mission type.

So I'm not the only one who decided to mine gold for the shield engineer.

In my experience, it's a trade beacon, they'll show up blue, and should be possible to find them by making a scan with the FSS but you could also check your navigation tab for a blue USS. Someone like Mineral Magpie or somesuch will offer you a "really profitable trade mission!"

On installations:

I was flying back to the bubble from a Guardian run when I discovered my first installation. I said to myself "Interesting. I like it. I'd like it better if I had this DBX kitted out for something more than collecting Guardian tech." I tried out one later in a combat vessel and I have to admit they were pretty fun.
