Horizons Mission on non-landable planet

I have a mission to collect 2 structural regulators as salvage on planet Navajoar 2C in the Navajoar system.

Biiig problem! That planet is a non-landable planet!

What do I do now. Is this the way it is meant to be played?:S With frustration and headaches?

What happened when you scanned the Nav beacon? Did it give you the target location in Orbit around the planet or on the planet itself?

No, I got a message to go to the planet. The target was on the surface of the planet. I landed, but as we all know, we can sit on the planet surface but not actually be attached.

Strange, for salvage you should be getting navigational guidance. I had the same issue as you, thought I needed to land, what I needed to do was orbit the planet, a salvage specific USS appeared in Orbit.

The Surface Salvage missions are slightly different, you'll get a marker in orbit, it will then lead you to the location on the surface of the planet.

Edit - What do you mean by sit on the surface of the planet? Non landable planets have an exclusion zone, you can only go into low orbit.

I noticed the target was on the planet surface, so went to Denton Observatory and got an srv. I went back and tried landing on the
target. No dice. Trying to land on the planet just gives the red radar. And the locked target is still under or near the ship. The ship's engine doesn't stop because even though the ship is on the surface it does not act as if it is on the surface. And no exclusion zone! If I was not supposed to land, there should have been one. I think it must be a bugged planet, bugged mission and bugged target. Guess I'll just bin it and move on.
bed time. Gotta turn in. Thanks for the input. I'll check back tomorrow night.
Damn typing is still bugged. Doesn't say much for their game being de-bugged any time soon.

is this your first time attempting a landing? It looks like you haven't located terrain that is suitable for landing. Larger ships require a larger area of suitable terrain. You may have to fly around the area to find a suitable zone to land then drive in the SRV to the target. Look for the ship display to change from red to blue. That indicates suitable landing sites.

Just went back to the game and planet after this forum discussion. Lo and behold, it is shown on the left panel with a blue icon and a planet icon. It didn't have those before. But it still is not in EDDB.
All good now. Must have been a bug. Fixed in one hour or so. A first, pretty much.
Thanks guys.

Landable planet or not, you can scoop mission cargo off the surface using your cargo scoop without landing. Just fly close enough until it drags along the ground.

I tried that at first, but there was
only a yellow target circle on the ground.
When I went back with the srv and gear there was a bunch of barrels and 2 skimmers.
They shot at me I shot at them. One of the skimmers attacked me from underground and then followed me around for a while. (still underground)
Went for a scenic drive (Yuck) and came back slowly. disposed of the skimmers (easier than I thought) and picked up the two barrels that were needed to complete the mission. Thankfully I had a heap of time to complete it.

Typing in the forums is still bugged.

Learn to use the scanner... There are often others sites within 2k and they have other cargo such as gold and platinum to name a few. You can often pickup 80 to 120k in a short time as a bonus to your mission. It is not unheard of to have 3 to 4 sites close by.
Be careful shooting skimmers. Lock them up an scan them. If they are wanted, shoot for easy money.
Learn to drive the SRV, it can be fun (think Dukes of Hazzard with a bit of drifting thrown in)!

Learn to collect materials for SRV refuel and repair, weapons reloads and engineer upgrades, learn to do some cliff jumping and canyon racing... Planets can be fun!
Above all, have fun and never grind and the game will keep you coming back.

Dukes of Hazard had it easy!

I use KB + mouse. Throttle control is horrific! I kept doing not just 360's but a few 360's at a time.
I'd press go and the srv would shrug and be Zero! I press a little longer and I'd be racing of across the scenery like a madman.

I think my Logitek Hotas x would be better, but I didn't have the patience to learn all those buttons. (learning problems thown in)
From a spectators view it would be funny. Should learn how to use the video thingy in game.
I think I have 13 refuels for the srv. Not sure about that ATMO.
Also, I have found the scanner to be hard to use. It shows something on the sweep, then when I get there, it seems to fade out. Maybe there was nothing there in the first place. This has made me wary of planetary landings unless it is to deliver goods.
