Newcomer / Intro Mission quesrion

So I take a mission for the empire, "Gather 2 non-lethal weapons and bring them back to this station".

Before accepting, I check the galaxy map for import/export and there are 2 systems, each a couple of jumps away, that are exporting these items. I check the commodities board, they are importing these items from both those systems. Cool.

I accept and head out to the first system. Nope, they have none in stock. They are importing from a system 15 jumps away that I'll never get to in time. That's fine, I have the other system that I have that's exporting. Couple of jumps later and I'm there, spend 1/2 an hour checking all the stations in the next system, nope thy don't have any either. They import from a system that's not even reachable by me it's so far away. At this point there is no way to finish this mission as I only had 90 minutes to begin with. So I am forced to abandon it and take a rep/credit hit in the process.

Here's my question then, how in the hell is someone supposed to complete this mission? What's the point of the trade route arrows in the galaxy map if they're useless? As far as I can tell, I've done everything correctly in order to complete this mission. Thanks in advance.

Hmm, it is a bit difficult to help there without actually seeing your screen to check those commodities.

Couple of questions so to ensure I understand oyu better:

- When you say "I check the galaxy map for import/export" what exactly do you do in it?
- Are you sure you checked all the little outposts aswell in addition to the big stations in those systems?

Normally the export/import coloured lines have worked perfectly well for me in general. In some occasions only one of the stations or little outposts in a given system had the commodity I was looking for so i had to check them all one by one.

Make sure that in the galaxy map with the commodities lines you have deselected everything else, as it is possible that you also had other commodities selected that may have misdirected you.

Another way to check commodity availability is to purchase the "trade data" of a system in the galaxy map. Then head back to the commodities screen and click on the rightmost column header to see a drop down of nearby systems. Select the one you just purchased the trade data for and see if the commodity you need is "imported from" that system.

PS: Once you feel more comfortable with trading may I suggest you pass by this thread to learn about all resources at your disposal, many of them community made: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=57986

Thanks Viajero,

When checking the map, I 'clear all' in the view tab, then open the weapons tab, and check only the 'non-lethal weapons' tab. This showed me arrows from 2 different system that were exporting to the system I was currently in. (and just happened to be the place where I was accepting the mission from) This was why I felt confident in accepting the mission, there were 2 different star systems that were exporting to here and both were only a couple of jumps away.

Yep, I checked every dock-able location in both systems for the commodity.

And yes, I did check the trade data, the station I was at was importing those non-lethal weapons from both those systems.

My whole issue, was that when I went to both those systems, turns out they were importing from somewhere else, a long way away. Sadly, this did not show up on that map that they were importing these items as well. I was hoping maybe I missed something, because if not, this is kinda B.S. I enjoy a difficult game, but providing me with false information is pretty crappy.

Not sure if it helps but I don't check the map, I check the comodities market and if they have an entry for the item I am looking for (some times they have, sometimes no if they don't import that item) select it and see where they import from and fly there. I haven't had any case of 'supposed exporter' system not having the goods but once there I have to look at every station in the system map to see what they produce (you don't need to fly to each one, open system map and select stations, on the left you'll have the details) and eventually I find it. If you have system data, you can check the system map before the trip

If both the galaxy map coloured lines and the "trade data" purchased show that non lethal weapons were exported from that system and when you checked all stations in that system the item was not on sale at all then all is left to do is to create a bug ticket! :)

Personally I have not seen this happening since early beta iterations of the game but it is possible the bug is still out there.
