Engineers Mission rewards based on system economy? Or...something?

Hi everyone - I've been trying to track down a few particular mission rewards (modular terminals, for example) but am having a hell of a time finding missions that offer them.

Let's pretend I've been living under a rock (may or may not be true): is there any rhyme or reason to how mission rewards are determined? If so, would it be by system economy, for example? Modular terminals usually given in high tech systems, or micro-weave cooling hoses in industrial systems? Or by similar commodities being bought/sold in systems?

Or are they RNG?

If they're RNG, I'll just keep looking - but I figured I'd ask in case I've missed something.

* I remember the very first mission reward post 2.1 I ever received were modular terminals, followed by those cooling hoses. I thought, "what the hell are these used for? Oh, level 3 stuff? Eh, I'll sell them and find more when I need them". Oops. :p

The game is so GD-RNG that I almost don't write this for fear of steering you down wrong path. Because I can testify what others have found 'easy' or consistent if not easy - I have found near impossible.

e.g. while not 'easy', many players have consistently found consistent polonium / yttrium at known planets by spending the hours needed to get it. Fair enough. Yet I spend order of magnitude time more, doing exact same method and best practice of how to search/get those rares - and get exactly nada. So RNG extreme bad luck for me, good luck for others.

So that said - the RNG that is working for me in this case, is that mission rewards - FOR ME - are tied to how obnoxiously tedious or 'difficult' it is to access those locations / missions.

my usual routine because it is reasonably credit rewarding despite nerfs long range missions / smuggling long range mission got (and I agree with those changes) is to run 2-3 roundtrips per play session to out of bubble places - the usual, like Sothis / CEOS, Maia, etc.

Can't speak for Maia as still ranking up there, but at Sothis / CEOS where I am allied - my RNG for me has been way, way over statistical consistency that I get offered what I'd call the 'good' mission rewards. By no means am I saying I control it or can predict it for any specific one desired - if I wanted any one mission reward type, it would still be stupidly difficult to predict RNG.

Like if I wanted specifically only microweave cooling hoses, or only nanobreakers, or only conductive component, whatever - almost any of the 'good' mission rewards which are usually one of the final limiting parts you need to make some recipe (and that reward item can't be bought at market), then it would still be hard to get.

But when not looking for any exact one in particular, I notice a WAY, way over the top consistent offering of the 'good' mission rewards when scanning the mission boards at Sothis / CEOS, which is ~400 LY run for most bubble locations. I also note that when out there I run lots of local missions, so am seeing the board a lot. I go out there - run local courier / salvage / delivery missions for an hour-90 min, then load up long range missions for trip home - and key note here - while also taking 'sourcing' missions - that ask me to return with XXX when I come back to Sothis / CEOS.

Any or all of those missions can and do offer mission reward components - and my RNG has been that Sothis / CEOS offers a massive increase to missions that give me 'good' mission rewards than when I am just mission grinding inside bubble for fed/empire ranking. So I am statistically scanning mission boards just as often inside bubble doing rank grinding, but I get far, far less 'good' mission rewards vs going to a way out there system and then do local + long range delivery + long range sourcing missions.

Your on the right track High tech worlds but i to was looking looking looking, in right place but no M/terminals, thats when i read about repping up with a faction simply by taking some delivery missions as I did so and refreshed then the M/terminals mission came up, so i think its based on your rep with the faction your stationed at, the long and short of it. Good luck.

Everything is random.

Have fun!

Untruth again today.

Each faction gives specific rewards more often,(I'm milking one for military alloys) faction and system states induce new missions and mission rewards all dependent on the state of faction/system. Find a few factions that give rewards you like and book mark them for later.

Booms can induce boom carrier missions that give polonium. ect ect

@ OP - if this ^^ is true then go to Cemiess and surrounding systems. I am awash with rewards for Modular terminals and Micro Weave cooling hoses by doing missions around there......

So what we are saying is the better you get with a local faction, the better material/commodity rewards based upon what you are looking for? How does it know what you are looking for? If the Devs had some kind of algorithm that takes into account your available engineers and the current earned levels, your equipment, your inventory of items to mod that equipment.. that would be AWESOME! But alas, I seriously doubt it. I am buddy-buddy with a faction in Iota Persei, but all they do is offer harder missions with higher pay out of CREDITS only.

I don't believe it is random though, because just as Jakozilla said- I had an excruciating time trying to source merely TWO polonium.. took me weeks of searching. That being said, I don't think it is random, but rather the opposite is true.. whatever you are looking for at the moment- the game intentionally prevents you from finding!

This has happened to me three times: First, for Modular Terminals: it was weird how I saw them as mission rewards as I casually browsed for another item.. UNTIL I actually needed them. A
nother time was for Micro-weave cooling hoses... SAME THING.. saw them as mission rewards UNITL I actually needed them..

Just recently was polonium.. the first polonium I found relatively pain free at the Pleiades sector, but after coming back to the bubble, I went to four other systems described on websites as having polonium, and did not find it at all until the fourth planet. Altogether, it took me almost 25 hours of searching to find ONE polonium.
Now I only hear the screeching sound of metal contacting metal as I grind away in search of Modded Consumer Firmware seemly hidden from me at the most needed time! Both from mission boards and scanning data points on med and low security facilities.. ARRGH! :)

Thanks everyone, I'll give these ideas/theories a shot. Couldn't hurt!

There's a post going on. Collecting DATA.

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/264895-Components-Drop-Rules

If a few more fellas would care to post some data things would go a lot better, faster and the end-result would be much more reliable.
Not asking for pages of data, even if it's a singular Bulleting Board or POI or whatever. If only 200 people did just one it'd be so much faster.

I saw that thread not long after posting this - it's a great idea and I'll add what data I can to it.

Can't remember which, but on one Commodity it actually stated in the Description that it was a "Boom State Faction Reward used by Engineers".

I think I saw it when toggling through the descriptions of required Commodities while docked at an Engineer Base.
Someone docked at one would need to seep through all Blueprints and re-check those hints and the descriptions where to find them.

I do believe some Rewards overlap - but some only come from certain Faction States, others seem tied to the Economy. Unsure if some require a combination, i.e. only found as Reward from a Booming HighTech Economy. Wouldn't be surprised, though.

OP don't forget to come back to tell us how random and frustrating the experience was!
