Newcomer / Intro Mission Space Body and Base Not Accessible In Nav Panel

Just had to abandon my mission that involves delivering to a base that is on the surface of a planet. I've had some of the same issues both times I've tried.

I am unable to see the planet or moon that the base is on in my nav panel. Everything else in the system is there EXCEPT what I need.

When I approach the base in orbit the marker for that base suddenly disappears. I circle and circle the spot where I think it should be, waiting for it to pop up again. Nope. I can see ships taking off from where it probably is but when I fly over that area I see no marker and I see no base.

So...wot the F?

As long as I'm on a roll and typing angry--wouldn't it be useful for a player to know if a mission is to an orbiting station or a planetside base before they accept it? Wouldn't that be the first question out of any pilots mouth? Wouldn't the person offering the mission ask "You DO have the ability to land on a planet, right?"

AND how about if the color of the marker for planetside bases has a toggle to change the color so that when it nearly matches the surface color of the planet it can be changed to something that can actually be seen? How would that be? I bet it would be useful to anybody trying to land at a base to actually know where it is.

Sorry for the spew but it's my first bad day in the sim. I guess the honeymoon is over.

Try the Websites EDDB or INARA. There you can look up the details of a delivery target before accepting the Mission. You see the economy, distance from Star, ruling faction, if its a surface base or not, and more.

Perhaps you don’t have all the system data for that system. Try scanning the nav beacon, see if the planets all show up then.

And missions do show if the station is planetary, or you can check the system map.

I'm truly sorry this has happened to you several times. I too have had several missions that are glitched, per say, and otherwise need some unnecessary events to find and are very upsetting as I share the same thing when a mission glitches as that seems to be the case.
May I give you some tips on what I have found that Frontier has changed, or mistakenly changed in the Horizons/Odyssey merge, as I've been here from the release of the vanilla and have seen some of the changes and mistakes made first hand.

1. Make sure you honk your Horn for system celestial bodies.
2. Sometimes, more than I'd like to admit, this glitches out and does not show all celestial bodies and mission targets, so it doesn't hurt to hit up the Navigation Beacon.
3. In some cases I have gathered valuable information from an FSS, if you have time, as the Horn and Nav Beacon should work, In theory...:)
4. In most cases I have found that just getting close to a celestial body your ship should do an auto scan, so to speak, giving some information on surface contacts. If not a DSS helps to scan the entire celestial body for everything, again, if you have one and in theory.
5. There is a Bind Key that will switch your ship from Combat Mode to Analysis Mode. Analysis mode will give you that annoying blue heatmap which works 50% of the time so switching to Combat mode will give you real sight of celestial body. I think this Bind is found in (Options / Controls / Ship Controls / Headlook / Switch Cockpit Mode. If you know this ignore #5....:) Either mode you can see all points through your Navigation Panel/ Contacts tab, in theory...:)
6. Sometimes the mission is just broken and or glitched, in which case you can submit a ticket or throw it into the suggestion's forum so that Frontier Devs. can look into that area of mission types.

All of the above are just things I have noticed personally and is not truly confirmed by any 3rd party internet sites.
I hope this can give you some things that might help with this and other future missions as Odyssey has created quite a few, for a lack of a better word, interesting mistakes...:)

Good Luck Commander....o7
