I posted something about this ages ago, but I'm going to give it another shout, having just abandoned a space salvage mission after sitting fruitlessly for 15 minutes waiting for the mission specific USS to spawn, which it did not.
Missions where targets spawn in space around a specific planet / body, many types of salvage and assassination ones, are actually pretty fun to do, and cater to a variety of play preferences from scavenging to shooting. Missions should be fun to do.
The problem with these types of mission, is that you honk / scan the nav beacon, fly to the location given in the mission update, and then, more often than not, you wait... Sometimes the wait is Ok, less than a minute, but quite often it's more in the region of 5 minutes, and sometimes longer, or even fails to spawn (which could be related to server load, I don't know).
I'm guessing the designers feel that we should imagine we searching for the target, hence the random wait, but in reality we are not, we are just sitting idly at minimum SC speed, wishing the target would show up so we can do the actual fun part of the mission.
There is IMHO no point at all to this enforced delay in getting on with the 'fun' part of the mission, and I'd have thought it would be relatively easy to just remove the RNG time delay for the target to spawn from all such missions. Once the player arrives in the correct vicinity, the target should spawn within a minute.
In my previous post about this, now long closed, I suggested a few things that might make it feel like more of a hunt for the target, but truly, even that isn't really needed. We've flown to where the mission needs to be carried out, that was the hunt, now let us get on and do the actual mission.
