It's really crap when you sign up for a mission and then have to leave. And then can't play the next day. This is because the timer keeps running down while not playing.
Some missions have rather short time spans, like 24h, and while it's perfectly doable in 24h, while doing those missions, you might have to deal with some of that stuff that you at frontier don't think exists. I mean something as silly as 'real life', whatever that is.
Then you're punished because you will fail the mission in the first place, that means loosing reputation, the time you spent collecting those missions, the rewards and you might even be fined because you 'stole' the cargo you were supposed to deliver. and if you're really lucky, you are even wanted because the fine timer ran out too.
Punishing people for not being able to play in that way is just frustrating and not fair, therefore I say, leave the mission timers, but don't have them run out while not actually playing. Maybe shave some of that overall time off to compensate.
